ABOUT:

In their original box! Beautiful French antique dangle earrings, each holding three old mine cut diamond in prongs with a nice carat weight for a beautiful sparkle. Wonderful sparkle with a total carat weight of around 2.4 carats for the pair. Some of the diamonds are eye clean which is wonderful to find in antique stones.

The bottom larger prong set diamonds measure about .85 carat each and dangle separately from a loop to allow them to catch the light for more sparkle. The top two diamonds are affixed to a post connecting to the ear wire and leading to the latched backs.

All the diamonds are set in platinum buttercup pronged settings with a lovely scalloped outline detail. These serve as an illusion setting making the nice sized stones appear even larger by surrounding them with a ruffly halo of white metal. All the stones are suspended up in the prongs to allow them to catch the light and sparkle. Beautiful quality antique diamonds.

Belle Epoque era pair of earrings that I acquired in France. These are crafted entirely in platinum with the latch backs having a yellow gold wash vermeil to provide two tone coloring. So romantic with the old cut diamonds. But with a still relevant linear look. These are always so popular. But Please note the measurements.

Comes as pictured in their original box (the blue one shown in the video).

Many of my French dormeuse are inserted from the back of the ear but these are even sturdier and less finicky in that they have a spring loaded hinged back with a little catch at the top, so they are inserted from the front of the ear, the backs then spring closed and they latch securely.

These earrings are called "dormeuse" in French which translates to "sleeper", meant to be dainty and small, comfortable enough to sleep in, used in olden times to keep the ear holes open overnight : ) Of course these days we don't recommend all night 24/7 wear on these antique pieces with intricate 100 year old gold hinges. Having said that these are quite sturdy. Again - please note the measurements. I always include them in each listing but people tend to miss them - I have to show zoom photos for detail which can make it hard to determine scale. These are intentionally dainty and small, it is how they were made, for adults, intending to be dainty.

Would be a beautiful something old for a bride.

French hallmarks for platinum on the ear wires. The symbol mark is struck twice on each earring, indicating all parts - the front / back, (or the front and latch), are in platinum. Once more - Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Some of my buyers draw them out to get an idea of scale.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

They measure about 25mm top to bottom. The pair weighs 5.3g combined.

I do not remove my antique diamonds from their settings for exact measurements but estimates to around 2.4 carats total for the pair.

The larger diamonds are about 6mm each in a larger illusion setting measuring 8.8mm in diameter. These larger bottom stones each measure around 0.85 carat with one slightly over having a bit deeper of a pavilion. The smaller diamonds - about 3.5 to 3.7mm for the top stones and 3mm each for the smallest center stones.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Typical antique diamonds with natural inclusions and some frosty spots but the pair for the most part are eye clean.
Earring One - One of the larger stones has an indented natural inclusions just above the girdle in two places. I am only able to detect these under strong magnification. The second largest stone has a small carbon speck inclusion very slightly eye visible. The center smallest stone has a delicious pale yellow color. I love finding this subtle hue in my antique stones, it faces up bright but warms to the pale yellow in direct sun.
Earring Two - The largest stone has an indented natural inclusion in one and a rough girdle edge in another spot. These are slightly eye visible if you are seeking them out and know where to look for them. It has a few other very small speck inclusions seen only under strong magnification. The top stone is eye clean and the middle has a bit of warmth and some natural frosty areas but nothing glaring. It is not as yellow as the other middle stone but more just "warm".

As expected for age there is some wear to the prongs. A few are worn all the way back but all stones are till surrounded on all sides and held with none of them moving. So this something to keep an eye on over time. Earrings are by nature more gently worn, but I never recommend 24/7 wear on my 100+ year old earrings so like all antiques, taking them off while sleeping, showering, etc is advised.

They function perfectly with tight springy hinges, amazing to find considering age, and latch securely.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop! : )
