ABOUT:

Not your average antique diamond solitaire! The mounting of this ring is just delicious with the buttercup face and scrolled details at each shoulder that have a glowing, rich and warm antique patina. Still stacks and layers well but with such a wonderful movement!

The uncommon and ornate setting is the perfect complement to the .6 carat antique hand cut old mine cut diamond. With prongs in good shape!

Found in Paris with the French hallmark for 18k gold.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and the pictures can make it difficult to see scale. Antique box is not included.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

Size 5 3/4 - you'd want to discuss sizing with your local jeweler first as shank is a bit thin at the back and opinions vary greatly with modern jewelers working on antiques.
The diamond is about 5.3mm, cushion cut. I wouldn't remove it from the setting but it is around .6 carat.
The piece weighs 2.5 grams. It is 9.1mm north south stands 5.2mm off the finger to the top of the diamond.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Not even a nibble to the diamond. Typical for antique diamonds cut in a much more limited supply, there is a warm silk inclusion that swirls through the center of the stone which is eye visible if you are seeking it out, but not dark like an inky carbon spot. The stone is bright white in color with a nice fire and the setting props it up to allow the light to pass through so it is full of life and gorgeous to wear. As expected for age, there is a little wear to one of the prongs so that is something to keep an eye on over time (as in years and years of time). But as is, the stone securely surrounded by the five other prongs, though the prongs are dainty and can break with blunt force.

I often get the question about daily wear and this one is tough to say. The stone isn't going anywhere unless really hit with applied force, which is usually the primary concern, but the setting does feel on the delicate side. The shank is thin at the back and it is not super thick at the shoulders so it doesn't have a very heavy / sturdy feel. The prongs are on the thinner side despite being long enough to encase the stone on each side. So I'm a little concerned that daily wear for someone rough on their hands could end up dinging the gold or making it out of shape. Something to consider as everyone wears their rings differently. Stacking it would probably help with stability.

What a fabulous setting. I'm in love with this one.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
