ABOUT:
Per multiple requests I have been trying to source more gypsy band rings with larger diamonds. This one has a one carat old mine cut diamond with nicely domed top.
Antique piece found in France with sleek and glowing, buttery 18k gold setting. The shoulders dome to prop up the one carat stone in a sturdy bezel.
The gypsy ring was incredibly popular during the Victorian era into the early 1900s and its timeless design remains an ever favored and wearable choice for today. This ring is substantial enough to wear alone but also layers well with other pieces. Rings such as this were also a popular choice for men to wear during this period as well so it is a true unisex ring.
It has the French hallmark for 18k gold.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box not included.
This would be a wonderful gift - right hand ring, statement piece, or stacker, wedding band, etc. for male or female.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
It is currently a size 7. The ring face 9.7mm north south with the shank remaining quite wide all the way around. It is 6mm tall off the finger. It weighs 6.6g.
I do not remove my stones from their antique settings for exact measurements but while set the stone measures about 6.5 by 5.6mm. Chunky in cut, it estimates to around one carat.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. But this one is pretty great - very sturdy setting ready for regular wear. The diamond is typical for the period though with some natural inclusions including some crystal specks and smattering of tiny carbon specks appearing like a galaxy scattered in one area of the stone. These are slightly eye visible as they are very very small. There is an indented natural inclusion on the underside of the stone running along one pavilion facet towards the culet. This can sometimes catch the light to become eye visible, lending some frosty areas to the stone. GIA defines this as a dent that occurs under the surface of a diamond as a result of the diamond cutter's decision not to polish it off, because doing so could end up harming the diamond so the cutters would work around it - this is not considered a defect or blemish but a natural inclusion. The stone has a nice bright color and lovely fire.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.
I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop! : )
