Love this one!
A timeless and substantial vintage stacker with a wide footprint on the finger and a fabulously chunky antique 1 carat old mine cut diamond set in a bezel cropping out of the ring face. While the diamond is antique with a wonderful hand chiseled look, the setting is later, vintage era with substantial hand feel in glowing 18k yellow gold.
The stone is a fabulous elongated cushion cut that measures 6.3 by 5.4mm but it is such a chunky cut that it totals around a carat.
Wonderful geometry to this combo gypsy cigar band ring. I love looking at the stone from the side to see the chunky cut. Ready for regular wear as it's a sturdy one weighing 8.5 grams in solid gold!
Found in France with their hallmark for 18k gold at the back.
I could actually see this one as a wedding ring. It layers really well but is substantial and interesting to wear alone. The design to me kind of spans all periods but it has a retro vibe - it is a vintage ring that was possibly designed to incorporate the antique old mine cut diamond that may have been from granny's ring or another heirloom family piece? But certainly a timeless and wearable piece! Certainly custom made and one of a kind! The shank remains wide all the way around but tapers towards the back for comfort.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 8 1/4. The diamond is 6.3x5.4mm and a chunky cut with lofty crown. I would not remove it for exact measurements but with such a thick cut, it totals around 1 carat.
The piece weighs a very sturdy 8.5 grams.
Ring face is 12mm north south and tapers to 6.6mm at the back of the shank.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The chunky antique diamond is typical for the period in that it has a few quirks - it has two little carbon silk inclusions - but what is amazing about the piece is that the diamond was expertly hand cut to hide them so it faces up nearly eye clean. You can see them if you are seeking them out and turn the stone to the side but then face on they seem to blend into the faceting. Those hand cutting experts during the antique period really were best of the best.
Some surface wear made more notable by the highly mirrored finish of the wide shank but a glowing chunker with fabulous sparkle. This is magnified in direct sun but I wanted to capture the sparkle.
There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
