Chunky 1.25 Carat Old Mine Cut DIAMOND Channel Set Ring 10.5g 18k Gold HEAVY Vintage to Antique Wedding Stacker 8.3mm Wide Band French OMC
Back from my spring inventory trips to Europe with plenty of unique antiques, hand picked one at a time for you!
ABOUT:
A timeless and substantial stacker with 1 1/4 carat of chunky old mine cut diamonds in a sturdy setting. This one layers really well but is interesting to wear alone also with the high crowns of the diamonds cropping out of the center channel. The band is a comfort fit with rounded and polished edges - a dream to wear. The design to me kind of spans all periods. Could be earlier 1900s with the hand cut old mine cut stones, but also has a retro vintage vibe so my guess is later. Hard to say for sure, it clearly has some age to it and the goldsmith stamp is half worn which takes years and years. But certainly a timeless and wearable piece!
Found in France with their hallmark for 18k in addition to the goldsmith stamp.
Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size: 5 3/4 - a little snug
Weight: 10.5g
north south measurement: 8.3mm
depth / Height off the finger: 4mm
The diamonds graduate in size slightly and have nice high crowns / chunky cuts. The largest is 4mm, then a pair at 3.7mm, 3.2mm and 2.5mm for the pair at the ends. I would not remove the stones from the setting for an exact carat weight but estimates to around 1.25 carat in old mine cut diamonds.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Typical antique diamonds that vary in their eccentricities. One smallest end stone is quite frosty / milky. The others have a faint natural inclusion here or there, a speck or shadow but no dark carbon spots or anything glaring and nothing taking up most of the stone. Aside from the frosty one which is eye visible, most everything else is seen more under magnification. No damage to any of the stones. Just one has a tiny crease on one facet from an inclusion carrying up to the surface. As is typical, these antique diamonds are warmer in color. This is partly because most of the rough diamonds at that time came from mines that produced warmer-colored diamonds. Some of this is also due to the stones splaying out along the top of the band so aside from the center one, the others don't face up, and is also contributed by the setting where they are sunken into the chunky gold work. They provide a wonderful chunky texture and that great antique sparkle.
Surface wear as expected. There are no dark or green or discolored spots to the gold, it's just the gold that reflects its surroundings including trees outside the window.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
