ABOUT:
Love this one!
A timeless and substantial vintage stacker with antique old mine cut diamonds set in a row. The sturdy linear setting making it a great piece for layering with an impactful presence of the 2 1/2 carats worth of old cut diamonds. While the diamonds are antique with their wonderfully chunky sparkle, the setting is later, vintage era with substantial hand feel in glowing 18k yellow gold. The hand cut stones vary slightly in their size, shape and characteristics giving the piece an organic feel.
I could actually see this one as a wedding or engagement ring stacked with another band. The design to me kind of spans all periods but it has a retro vibe - it is a vintage ring that was possibly designed to incorporate the antique old mine cut diamond that may have been from granny's ring or another heirloom family piece (or multiple pieces)? But certainly a timeless and wearable piece!
Extra sturdy prongs make this one ready for daily wear for 100 years.
Found in France with their hallmark for 18k gold and a maker's stamp.
Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size: 5 1/2
Weight: 5.25g
north south measurement: 5mm at ring face, tapering towards the back but remaining wider all around.
depth / Height off the finger: 4mm to top of the crown of center diamond.
The five diamonds are 4.5 to 5mm each, with each measuring half a carat each give or take. I would not remove the stones from the setting for an exact carat weight but estimates to about 2 1/2 carat total weight in diamonds (2.5ctw).
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Typical antique diamonds - one end stone is eye clean but all the others have slightly eye visible to eye visible inclusions. One stone second from the end has a warm silk inclusion across the center that is eye visible. The others have crystal or speck inclusions with the stone second from the other end having 3 indented natural inclusions where the inclusion carries up to the surface and leaves 3 small unpolished areas. These are all around the outside edge of the stone. A tiny nibble to the girdle here or there not really eye visible but seen under magnification.
Really nice fire and sparkle to the diamonds, as the videos were taken in filtered sun and not my best lighting. Very sturdy setting.
There are some varying warm to gray hues but much of this is due to the setting. You may notice in some of the pictures how the side stones reflect the light differently because they are splayed outward and do not "face up" like the center stone which is perfectly perpendicular from the ring face to the eye view. In that case some of the variation you see is just looking at those stones from the side, and then once the hand is turned so that the side stones face up, they appear whiter again.
As mentioned, the sizes, cuts and shapes vary from stone to stone. The center stone and one next to it are the largest, with the one off a center appearing slightly larger due to its cut and the way it is angled. The other three stones appear slightly smaller, so this is what I mean about the organic feel - in that the stones are not all uniform in size and do not graduate in size evenly. This is just how the piece was made, again probably a custom piece assembling a collection of stones from another piece or pieces.
There are no dark spots to the gold, it's just the gold that reflects its surroundings. Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
