ABOUT:
A chunky antique eye clean diamond propped up in sturdy prongs ready for daily wear! This French antique piece is crafted in 18k white gold with the old European cut diamond measuring 1 carat.
Also exciting to find that the antique diamond is eye clean! Really a fine stone and wonderful to find the setting ready for daily wear. This would make a special engagement ring, anniversary or right hand statement ring or a great stacker with nice height and sturdy shoulders.
Found in France - No hallmarks remain which is actually common for French pieces as they are marked in the back and often lost during a sizing or from wear. But sold to me from a reputable source in France where the standard is 18k and tested to confirm.
I don't prefer to grade my antique diamonds with the Four C's grading scale which came about way later for machine cut diamonds with mathematically perfected facets. The scale does not do antique stones justice as they were expertly hand cut to their best advantage, in a much more limited supply compared to the millions of carats of machine cut diamonds made each year now. Their uniqueness and quirks are expected and part of their charm, but this one is eye clean. It does have a slight warmth in color in some light, often sought after. This is because most of the rough diamonds at that time came from mines that produced warmer-colored stones.
Especially considering the age of the stone, it is very lively and sparkly, not dull or lifeless in any way.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 8 1/2, a little over but does not reach 8 3/4. With the sturdy prongs, this would be a good candidate for sizing by your local jeweler. Usually they say within 2 sizes is a guide but this could possibly handle more - something to discuss with the person doing the work.
The diamond measures about 6.4mm and is a chunky cut. I do not remove antique stones from their settings for exact measurements but sold to me at around 1 carat which aligns with my estimates.
The piece weighs 2.3grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The diamond is eye clean with no damage. A beautiful color and clarity with no nicks or chips. Even under magnification it has a wonderful clarity.
The white gold setting has a warm glow from age. This is also typical of antique white gold where the rhodium coating can be redone if desired to give it a more vibrant platinum color. But I always sell my antiques in original condition. The prongs are ready for daily wear.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
