ABOUT:
I get requests for bezel set rings quite often and here is a good example of one in a comfortable ready to wear setting that has some nice geometry and sparkle to it. Sturdy craftsmanship with donut shank and the blocky round bezel holding the 0.9 carat old European cut natural diamond securely.
These bezel settings serve as an illusion setting to make the stone appear even larger when wearing by surrounding it in a white metal. With a bit of height for stacking.
Found in France with their hallmark 18k gold and another partial stamp. It is crafted in white gold.
I've been wearing it with a gold donut band or a yellow diamond band. I love mixing metals in my ringstack.
Makes a timeless engagement ring, adds geometry and sparkle to a ring stack. It layers really wonderfully with other pieces. And again comfortable with the diamond set in the sturdy bezel so it doesn't catch on things.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size: 6 1/4
Ring face: 7.3mm north south and 5.1mm tall off the finger.
Weight: 4.1g
The diamond is about 6mm and widens out a bit further an unknown amount in the bezel setting so it is difficult to determine exact measurements but it is about .9 carat, again appearing larger with the bezel. This is an estimate as I would not remove the stone from the setting for exact measurements.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Well you knew it was coming - the detailed diamond report. : ). Typical antique diamond with quirks. This one has some formations of crystal inclusions giving it a frosty appearance around about half of the stone so it is priced accordingly compared to if it were clearer. No dark or glaring carbon but there is also an area where the inclusions have carried up to the surface leaving a triangular shard of loss to one edge. The stone is still stable, complete and fills the setting, appearing round and sparkly, but when you study the surface edge you can see the unpolished and uneven area that has a frosty finish. This along with the inclusions being eye visible affecting the clarity of the stone.
Very slight warmth to the stone also typical for the period.
It varies from room to room so hopefully the photos in different lighting conditions give you an indication of how the piece wears. Feel free to request additional videos too as I have several and it seems to capture the stone better than some of the photos which come out quite busy picking up all the reflections of the inclusions in the stone. Again sold as is and priced accordingly as it would be quite a bit more if the diamond were pristine. Many of the stones in my personal collection have quirks like these, considering they were cut in much more limited supply but still a sparkly and wearable piece.
Also a note that these popular bezel settings reflect the light differently being nested into and surrounded by the white gold, compared to one suspended in prongs where the girdle and pavilion can catch the light but it still has a lovely sparkle. And the setting is also one of the things that makes it very interesting! A fun one to layer and stack. Sturdy piece, ready to wear.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
