I take regularly scheduled inventory trips to Europe to offer you a selection of carefully curated antiques. These have all been hand picked one at a time and most are one of a kind.
ABOUT:
A Victorian circle brooch entirely diamond encrusted with a beautiful antique sparkle and texture.
This one would make an awesome extender / connector or pendant. It holds 32 rose cut diamonds all around the outside for an attractive geometry worn around the neck or as a brooch. Sturdy piece, it could easily converted to a pendant with loops added to each side of the back or one at the center, with the pin parts easily removed.
This appears to have originally been a picture frame brooch? There may have been a glass panel inside at one time as there is a gold rim / frame that is removable but tucks in with a tab to the inner perimeter of the circle. I think it looks great as a diamond circle with no glass so I like it as is.
I decided not to convert it because these are often incorporated into neck stacks as extenders or glittery connectors as seen in photos where I used one of my chains with dog clips to hook to each end. (Chain and other items are not included, listing is for pin alone). So I will leave it to the buyer to work with their local jeweler if they wish to convert it to a pendant permanently, as they could then also decide how they prefer to orient it.
Found in Sweden, no hallmarks remain, sold to me as 18k and tested to confirm.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Some of my buyers "draw out" an example to get an idea of scale in person.
Antique Boxes, props, hooks, chains, mice : ) not included. I just used some staging chains to show examples of how to wear.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Weight is 4.25g. 27mm in diameter.
The diamonds are each about 2mm give or take. Exact depths vary so carat weight is unknown but with 32 stones at 2mm, it faces up at around 1 carat total weight in diamonds. Rose cuts being typically spready with flat backs, the actual carat weight would be less but again unknown without removing them to put them on a scale.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Typical antique rose cuts with some inclusions, nicks, frosty and irregular edges, likely have always been that way as they were rough cut by hand. They are small so this is not really visible to the eye, they just add a nice little glint of sparkle and a wonderful texture. Varying warm to gray hues.
Some of the hues are due to some residue inside, mostly hidden by the gold frame as it is in between the removable gold frame and the inside rim of the circle. I tried to remove the gold frame to clean or polish it but couldn't get it to clear away as it is like a residue that has darkened. Thankfully the gold frame when put back in place hides most of this but I wonder if someone had used adhesive long ago to secure it and the residue is still there? It is possible a jeweler could use buffing tools just on the inside rim to try and clear that away but again most of it is hidden when the frame is in place and I only ever gently hand clean my antiques. There are areas behind the diamonds within the setting that are also darker, contributing towards the gray hues of the diamonds but this is again within the setting so aside from the diamond hues, the residue is not visible when wearing the piece. I actually love the hues, the moody antique sparkle and wonderful texture with the sturdy glowing gold of the piece.
Note that the pin back sticks out and currently prevents it from lying flat against the decollette but it can be worn to the side or permanently converted quite easily.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
Thanks so much for looking at my items!
