ABOUT:
A sweetie cutie patootie! Big diamonds are fun but I am always quite drawn to these dainty Victorian pieces. They are appropriate for the period as these stones were cut in much more limited supply and rings averaged out to this size (or smaller or without diamonds at all) for the majority of the population with larger diamonds quite rare and reserved for the upper class. Of course today we see the average engagement ring size having grown driven by mass produced and lab grown stones, but that was not the case back then so this one is a perfectly appropriate Victorian engagement ring, which is another thing that makes it so special. : ) It has withstood the test of time, and yet remains so on trend in its design today.
Here we have a classic and timeless old mine cut diamond solitaire with additional old mine cut diamond accents raised at each shoulder. This French antique piece is crafted in 18k gold with platinum prongs. The cushion cut old mine cut measures about .27 carat for beautiful stackability or solitaire sparkle.
It would be a really sweet pinky ring as well! Found in France with their hallmark for 18k gold.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
It is a size 4 3/4. It weighs 2.3 grams.
The diamond is about 4.2mm cushion cut, measuring about 0.27 carat for a total carat weight of a little over .3 carat for all three stones.
The ring face stands 4.7mm tall off the finger.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The prongs are good as far as length but two are a bit lifted. If having the ring sized, which it could handle as the prongs do have good length and aren't worn away, this could be easily tightened. The stone is completely stable with no risk of loss but does move up and down slightly due to the two slightly lifted prongs, still the stone is well held on all sides.
I actually should have cleaned this better before photographing so it appears even better now. Typical antique diamond with one frosty natural linear inclusion and a few small frosty specks but all in all only slightly eye visible and nothing glaring. It has a slight warmth also typical for the period.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

Many of my listings include group shots – I find the comparisons between pieces help show scale, diamond hues, etc. All items in group shots are inventory, but refer to the website to see what items have sold out and to watch for new listings from the grouping to appear on the home page.
