ABOUT:
Classic and timeless old mine cut diamond solitaire with rose cut diamond accents at each shoulder. This French antique piece is crafted in 18k gold with platinum or white gold prongs (I don't scratch test the tops of settings for fear of damage but back then they most often set the diamond in a white metal). The cushion cut old mine cut measures about .67 carat for beautiful stackability or solitaire sparkle.

Rather than having the diamond perched on top of the band, the shoulders extend up towards the top part of the stone, where the prong setting is somewhat nested within them if that makes sense. The ring shoulders are then accented with rose cuts. So elegant and with a sturdy shank.

The prongs are in quite good shape for age as well, making this beauty ready for more regular wear. It has a nice height to it allowing it as well to layer well with other pieces.

Found in Paris with the French hallmark for 18k gold.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.

MEASUREMENTS:
It is a snug size 6 1/2. It weighs 2.5 grams.
The diamond is about 5.5 by 5mm cushion cut, measuring about 0.67 carat. I would never remove it from the antique setting for exact weight.
The ring face stands 5.6mm tall off the finger. The widest part of the ring shoulders are 2.3mm north south and about 3mm tall at the tallest part by the basket setting.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

The prongs are good, just a little age related wear. The stone is completely stable. Some rub marks on the vertical edges from stacking.

Typical antique diamond with one frosty natural linear inclusion that creates a sort of icy streak through that area. No dark carbon or dinginess but this inclusion is eye visible because it reflects around the stone, being more visible when the stone faces up than when studying the inclusion from the side. It carries up to the surface leaving a few tiny indented natural inclusions that are not eye visible. The stone is stable and ready for wear but that frosty sorta of icy shard through it can catch the light. Do keep in mind that the zoom photo provided tends to really add a lot of busyness within even the clearest of diamonds as it tries to pick up all the light reflections, so zoomed diamonds tend to look a lot worse than the stone appears with normal wear.

This one was hand cut long before the Four C's were ever concocted and back then, they were cut in such limited supply that not much attention was paid to these types of natural characteristics to the stone. It is priced accordingly as my last similar one sold for many hundreds more. Hopefully the photos in all conditions help give an indication of how the piece can vary. Feel free to check my website for more images as well.

The rose cuts are also typical, very small frosty irregular cuts meant to just add a glint of sparkle, they pretty much always look this way.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

All items hand picked by me, one at a time from all over the world. All listings individually written by me, and not AI, after studying each piece to discuss its beauties and its ; ) eccentricities (which I am picky to point out).

Many of my listings include group shots – I find the comparisons between pieces help show scale, diamond hues, etc. All items in group shots are inventory, but refer to the website to see what items have sold out and to watch for new listings from the grouping to appear on the home page.
