ABOUT:
Classic and timeless old mine cut diamond solitaire. This French antique piece from the Victorian period is crafted in 18k rosy gold with platinum prongs (back then they most often set the diamond in a white metal). The cushion cut old mine cut measures about .75 carat for beautiful stackability or solitaire sparkle.
Rather than having the diamond perched on top of the band, the shoulders extend up towards the top part of the stone, where the prong setting is somewhat nested within them if that makes sense. So elegant and with a sturdy shank.
The prongs are in quite good shape for age as well, making this beauty ready for more regular wear. It has a nice height to it allowing it as well to layer well with other pieces.
Found in France with their hallmark for 18k gold and with a partial goldsmith stamp.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
It is a size 6 1/2. It weighs 4.1 grams.
The diamond is about 5.9 by 5.5mm cushion cut, measuring about 0.75 carat. I would never remove it from the antique setting for exact weight.
The ring face stands 6.2mm tall off the finger. The widest part of the ring shoulders are 3.5mm north south and about 4mm tall.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The prongs are good, just a little age related wear. The stone is completely stable.
Typical antique diamond with one frosty pocket natural inclusion. This is not visible to my eyes which are in their forties : ) but is slightly eye visible as far as the scales go. There is no dark carbon or anything glaring but the crystal pocket can catch the light. Slightest warmth to the stone but it does not read dingy or yellow. Hopefully the photos in all conditions help give an indication of how the piece can vary. Feel free to check my website for more images as well.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
