ABOUT:
Classic and timeless old mine cut diamond solitaire. This all original French antique piece from the Victorian period is crafted in 18k rosy gold with platinum prongs (back then they most often set the diamond in a white metal). The cushion cut old mine cut diamond is eye clean and measures about .87 carat for beautiful stackability or solitaire sparkle.
Rather than having the diamond perched on top of the band, the shoulders extend up towards the top part of the stone, where the prong setting is somewhat nested within them if that makes sense. So elegant and with a sturdy shank.
It has a nice bit of height to it allowing it as well to layer well with other pieces but without catching on things.
Found in France with their hallmark for 18k gold. The gold has a beautiful rosy hue. It is not vibrant pink rose gold like the rose gold of today, but rather a beautiful rosy warmth from age over time to the unregulated mix of metals used during the period to create the 18k gold.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
It is a size 6 1/4. It weighs 3.3 grams.
The diamond is about 5.8 by 5.5mm cushion cut, but a chunky one measuring about 0.87 carat. I would never remove it from the antique setting for exact weight.
The ring face stands 5.7mm tall off the finger. The widest part of the ring shoulders are 3.7mm north south and about 3.5mm tall.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The prongs are good, but one is worn completely back and there is some thinning to some of the others. The stone is completely stable and held on all sides but this would be something to keep an eye on over time, if desired for daily wear which I don't usually advertise for any of my original antique pieces over 125 years old. Although fortifying can always be done by your local jeweler for 24/7 wear if desired.. Some scuffs and scratches to the high shine sleek shank.
Eye clean antique diamond which is always a delight to find. Slightest warmth to the stone but it does not read dingy or yellow as it faces up brighter / whiter, one of the joy of these expertly hand cut antique stones. They are just "softer" which is one of the things we love about them.Hopefully the photos in all conditions help give an indication of how the piece can vary. Feel free to check my website for more images as well.
It's a hand made antique setting which we prefer over the modern machine made mass produced pieces. As a result, one shoulder appears a hair closer to the ring head than the other which is not noticeable while wearing but you can seek it out in photos.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

All items hand picked by me, one at a time from all over the world. All listings individually written by me, and not AI, after studying each piece to discuss its beauties and its ; ) eccentricities (which I am picky to point out).
Many of my listings include group shots – I find the comparisons between pieces help show scale, diamond hues, etc. All items in group shots are inventory, but refer to the website to see what items have sold out and to watch for new listings from the grouping to appear on the home page.
