ABOUT:
This eye catching French Victorian era antique pocket watch case would make the most beautiful pendant for your #neckmess or #neckstack. Crafted in 18k gold, it is decorated with rose cut diamonds in the textured cover which is topped in silver, as was customary to set diamonds in a white metal. Inset in the middle is a gorgeous vibrant pink clover that is set with synthetic rubies.
Found in France - it is hallmarked inside the lid and on the crown but I can't decipher the marks.
The piece has the most amazing texture and color. It is quite striking.
NOTE that the inside watch mechanism does not work and is likely not repairable as a time piece. I am selling it As Is - as an amazing pendant with the clock facing the back. The time can be set to any time you wish as that part works, but it just doesn't want to tick or keep time. More important condition notes below. Sold as is.
Darker patina around the diamonds so they are definitely set in silver as was customary for the period. The gold has a wonderful patina with warm rosy highlights. If you decide to purchase and would like me to polish the gold rim to brighten it up, please let me know. Being near to the silver it has some patina. The silver won't try to polish as I don't want to rub any stones loose, but I did give the piece a light cleaning.
Chain in photos is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
This is a Smaller Size pocket watch, would have been a ladies watch on a chatelaine or watch chain.
MEASUREMENTS:
About 38mm to the top of the loop by 25mm wide by 9.5mm deep. It weighs a sturdy 17.9 grams with the watch mechanism is inside.
The diamonds are small at 1 to 2mm each.
IMPORTANT CONDITION DETAILS:
All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition considering age. As mentioned the watch mechanism is inside and does not work. I am selling the case as is, as a pendant. You can push the side button and set the time but it seems to move and slide so the gears inside must be loose and it doesn't tick. Sold As Is.
These always need gentler wear due to the many many stones set into the antique setting and all the hinges and glass and old bead prongs. But this one especially with all the tiny diamonds individually set - it needs gentle handling. The diamonds appear warm to gray with irregular cuts and frosty inclusions, they are like discs thinly cut. They are open back. They are open backed but I didn't want to get the piece wet so I wasn't able to seem to clean it. The bezel or scalloped loop at the top for hanging on a chain was gem set on both sides with small rubies. On the front side, all 3 are present, on the back side there is only 1, the other two are missing.
As with all my items - Please see photos closely as this is not a mint condition item. I would think with Soooo many small stones, it would be quite easy for the piece to lose additional diamonds over time so again - very gentle wear and handling.
