GIARDINETTI Antique Floral Bouquet Vase Ring Rose Cut White Sapphire Emerald & Small Rose Cut Diamond
GIARDINETTI Antique Floral Bouquet Vase Ring Rose Cut White Sapphire Emerald & Small Rose Cut Diamond
ABOUT:
A fun figural 1700s Georgian era antique giardinetti ring with a mix of gemstones including an emerald, blue sapphires and a center rose cut white sapphire. Beautiful leaf details at each shoulder. The center stone is foil backed, meant to look like a diamond. There is one small rose cut diamond which is below the vase holding the larger white sapphire stone.
Lots of different colors with the shades of green, blue and white. One of the small stones has a warm peach hue - perhaps a topaz? One of the green stones is more chartreuse and may be a peridot comparing it to the other emeralds. They all tests at gems but I haven't had each analyzed as it would be difficult for the small stones in these settings but it is a nice mix of color to this multi gemstone ring. See important condition notes below.
This is a personal collection release from the Georgian period. I acquired it in Europe and enjoyed it as many antique jewelry collectors are drawn to the giardinetti form. Just can't keep them all and we are saving up for some home renovation so I decided to offer it up after having my jeweler clean up the setting to make it more suitable for sale. I love floral and figural rings.
Later French hallmarks for 9k gold and silver, it actually tests at 10k gold but the French stamp for 9k, 14k and 18k. The shank is all gold, and the ring face is silver with a gold applied shield detail to the back of the vase which is a fun accent. We usually see a gold wash to the back of silver topped rings, meant to prevent any tarnish from marking the finger. In this case it is an applied shield at the center, an interesting detail.
Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 7 on the mandrel, seems to fit a bit snugger as the shank is somewhat oval, the ring face is 15mm north to south. It weighs 2.8 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All my pieces are preowned and in estate condition. Important to consider age of nearly 300 years to this piece. One of the longer green stones on the left side is cracked. The sapphire is nice and bright with shiny white foil, but it has abrasions that give the rose cut facets a matte finish when you study them. The other stones also have nicks, scuffs and abrasions.
There is solder and evidence of repairs to the stems reaching out from the vase so the metalwork is uneven. It had several breaks and was quite messy with dark and crumbly old solder when I acquired it, so my jeweler did the minimal to clean it up and reinforce it - so it is much improved compared to when it was in my collection. The good news about that work being done is the piece is nice and stable now, having been fortified.
Some adhesive residue behind 2 or 3 of the stones which was always there, and some buildup since you can't get these wet. Some gaps around the bezels so while the metal work and frame is sturdy now, it would be good to keep an eye on the small stones. Keeping all these things in mind, I have priced it to sell, being sold as is. Still wearable and not a super fragile setting compared to some of this age, especially considering how cracked it was when I acquired it, although you'd want to keep an eye on the stones as mentioned.
But as with all my estate pieces - Please note this is not a mint condition item.
Thanks so much for looking at my items!
