ABOUT:
Glittery antique cruciform ring. I love this one for the north, south, east and west rose cuts that are like a cushioned triangular shape, almost like the shapes used during this period to represent hearts. Always fun to find old cut diamonds in a shape other than round. And for age, the diamonds still read nice and bright with not a lot of the muddiness or rust we often find on foil backed stones. The center stone has sort of a sort of peachy pink blush hue from age to the foil in some light. Also wonderful to see the domed tops of the diamonds cropping out of the collet settings, compared to many rose cuts that are more thinly cut disks, these are the true dutch rose cuts.
I love cruciform rings for their geometry, this one is a beauty to wear, looks great on the pointer finger too! I love the way the shank is embossed all the way around.
I got this one in Amsterdam when I had one day during my recent inventory trip. I definitely took it by storm, coming in on the redeye and promptly speed walking many miles to hit all the shops I could find in one day.
This one is very Georgian in style with the 14k gold shank and silver topped collet settings holding the diamonds, but I believe it is later, Victorian period, still definitely antique. It has later Dutch hallmarks for 14k gold.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Some of my buyers "draw out" an example to get an idea of scale in person.
Antique Boxes, props, mice : ) not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 8.
The ring face is about 15mm north south, it stands 5mm off the finger. The diamonds are 4mm in the line of three down the center, 3mm at the east and west sides with smaller ones in between. The piece weighs 2.8 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Closed back setting so we avoid getting these wet. Typical antique diamonds with some natural infusions including one with a carbon spot. That same stone has indented natural inclusions leaving small unpolished spots on one side. Some nibbles but all the stones are complete and well held. Some slightly warm to gray hues but compared to many of this age the foil is quite bright and reflective.
While it has a sturdy hand feel always recommend gentle wear on these old pieces, especially with so many small diamonds encrusting it in 200 year old settings.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
Striking to wear with the figural shape.
I would be delighted if you'd follow me in my shop. Thanks for stopping by!
