ABOUT:

Saved from the scrap pile! With the price of gold these days we are tragically seeing more and more unique antiques melted down for their weight in gold (sorrows, sorrows). This is one that I saved from melt as I found its beautiful details and wearable condition still a beautiful addition to any neckmess / neckstack. Yes it has some imperfections, it has some repairs where loops were added to reconnect a few areas. These repairs had already been done when I purchased it. I am certainly happy though that someone had gone through the trouble so that I could offer it to someone who understands the one of kind quirks of antique jewelry.

Amazingly glowing Victoria era long guard chain, originally likely held a watch of chatelaine item but makes a beautiful and unique layering chain. Found in France, this gorgeous piece is crafted in rich 18k gold with curved curb chain links to catch the light. It is accented with intermittent gold cubes and spiked yellow gold balls that have little rivet details. Such a wonderful color and glow not to be found on modern made gold pieces.

The piece opens end to end with a dog clip on one side, to be worn single and long, or doubled and shorter in your neckmess / neckstack. Please note the measurements.

French control hallmarks for 18k gold used on the dog clip and another on the loop for 18k gold.
Any props or additional items not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

MEASUREMENTS:
It weighs 10.9 grams.
Stretched end to end it is a little over 30 inches.
The chain links are a little over 3mm wide.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. Perfect rich antique patina and beautiful glow and detail but as mentioned there are five round links that appear to have been added to re-connect the chain from a broken link there. Three of these are within a 2.5 inch section at the back, on one end by the dog clip. One is towards the middle and the last is 4 inches from the other end with the loop. Depending on how you wanted to style it, you could use a split ring or additional dog clip to add a pendant to the more central loop which would make it look intentional, while wearing the others towards the back where they would be less noticeable. These repairs are tidily done but it is a round link compared to the unique antique curb links which would have been difficult to match so you can notice an interruption to the pattern of the other links when you are looking for it. You'll also notice that the spacing on the spiked ball details is off for one side. Four of them line up but then there is an additional one on one side that is set between the dog clip and the next one, so it is closer to it in pacing than the others are from each other.

Certainly still beautiful and very wearable. The dog clip has a slightly rosier patina. A few slight ripples and shallow impressions to some of the original links but it is stable and wearable. Like many antique chains, the links can sometimes get hung up on each other and may need an occasional adjustment while wearing, similar to when you wear a ring and you sometimes have to spin the ring face slightly to face up evenly, etc. Not really a condition issue but it was something I found very occasionally while handling it so I thought I would mention it as I try to include everrrrrythingggggg ; ) I see. Sold as is as it is priced for several hundred less than my last similar sales, and I had to pay over scrap for it to save it from scrappers, which I was happy to do to preserve it. It really shimmers and glows.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
