ABOUT:
Beautiful detail and antique intricacy to this early Victoria era necklace / chain. The fine mesh herringbone box link of the back half has a rich antique patina. This leads down to the other half of the chain which is set with alternating ball and cube details. The ball / spheres have little rivet details to add texture. Such a wonderful color and glow not to be found on modern made gold pieces.
Found in France. One hallmark remains on the spring ring, it is the French dual hallmark we often see on antique chains, for 18k but also with the boar's head, either serving as a control mark for Paris during that period, or perhaps indicating some inner working of the spring ring is silver, but the entirety of the chain is 18k gold, tested in multiple ways including X-ray. I think there was likely a hallmark on the end loop as well but it may have been fortified with gold added to strengthen the loop, it doesn't look like a repair and it is not visible to the eye but it is a bit uneven there under magnification, perhaps it was just worn.
Any props or additional items not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
It weighs 8.8 grams.
Stretched end to end it is just under 17 3/4 inches.
The box chain is 1.5mm gauge, the little gold spheres are about 4.8mm in diameter.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Excellent antique condition with no welds. Beautiful patina. Ready to wear.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
