ABOUT:

Wonderful French antique daisy cluster pendant featuring 9 rose cut diamonds in closed collet settings with foil backs.

This came to me as broken earring that I had converted to a pendant. As such, it was very gently worn compared to a lot of antique jewels. The foil is still nice and bright and reflective, not muddy or rusty so this one exudes lively sparkle. I love the slightly out of round center stone which serves as proof that it is an original antique - these quirks are the things we look for as part of the charm of antique stones, each one of a kind hand cut.

This is a lovely little pendant, bright and sparkly with a slight warm to blush hue to the a few of the smaller stones from age to the closed back but at the same time a really reflective sparkle.

No hallmarks remain but I purchased it in France as a broken dormeuse and the standard there is 18k, it was marked on the earring parts and tested to confirm.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Some of my buyers "draw out" an example to get an idea of scale in person. They are always smaller in real life than they appear in photos due to the zoom photos I am required to show.

Antique Boxes, props, chains, bannisters, mice : ) not included.

MEASUREMENTS:

Height including jump ring: 16mm
Width: 10mm
Depth 6.7mm
Weight: 1.4 grams.
Carat weight cannot be determined because of the closed back settings, depth cannot be determined without removing the stones which I would never do.
The outlining stones are 2.6 to 3mm each. The center stone is about 5mm in diameter and faces up as a half carat diamond with a pavilion would appear. Face up value if compared with brilliant cut diamonds, this one wears at around 1.15 carat total weight in diamonds.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Signs on the back of the conversion you can see some smoothing to the lattice filigree work underneath the face of the pendant, some smoothed solder and interruption to the pattern. This openwork detail angles inward underneath the ring face so the diamonds cover over it when the piece is facing up. This wear and altering is seen when you turn the piece to the side or over to the back where you can see the evidence that it was once an earring.

Typical antique diamonds with some faint natural inclusions. There are some cloudy and a few dark spots to the foil backing from age but this is seen mostly under magnification. Some rough unpolished edges which is how the stones were made, and one has some frosty flakes of loss around the outside edge, again not seen while wearing. While wearing, all the stones fill the collet settings and appear complete to the eye with a lively sparkle and brightness. Aside from the few flakes of loss, the rest is what is typical and expected for closed back and foiled pieces of this age. If these signs of age did not exist, we would have concerns that the piece is newly made in the old style so I take these aforementioned notes as a good thing. Sturdy and read to wear, none of the stones move, although we do not advise 24/7 wear on these 150 year old pieces as they should not get wet.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
