Time for Mouse to clean out her jewelry house (box)! Working on a big stock drop of ALL personal collection releases so I hope you like what I like! : )
Meanwhile... Sorrows, tears, sorrows, tears... - I still love each and every one of these, but I just don't get around to wearing them all enough and we have other needs right now so I'm hoping to re-home them where they can be loved and enjoyed. : )
I also try to keep my PC pretty humble so as I add things throughout the years, every so often I do a big clear out and these are some of my all time faves - figurals, some with secrets, dates, all have meaning to me so they will be sent to the buyer with all my love and joy and happy memories : )

ABOUT:

Love these romantic pieces! Typically always French - here we have a Wonderful dated traditional Georgian period Gimmel wedding band in 18k gold. At first glance it appears like a normal little skinny stacker / wedding band until you discover the seam and notice that it is actually two rings which twist and nest perfectly together.

Inside you discover the secret with the engraved names and date of the couple: "Louise Jegu // Auguste Massarin - 12 Fev 1833). For Feb 12, 1883.

This engraving is not visible when the ring is closed and being worn as the engraving is intricately done in the flat inside edges of the two bands that nest together.

These are quite unbelievable in the fabrication as it nests so perfectly together, the seam is almost invisible. I had this one in my personal collection because of the Georgian period date engraving, as they are usually found with later 1800s dates, this is one of the oldest ones I've been able to find. I also liked the faceted design which still seems so on trend and modern today - crazy to see that it is almost 200 years old and still so well functioning.

This one is also curious in that two of the sides are faceted, the top and one of the north/south edges, but the opposite north south edge is flat / unfinished with a matte finish like the inside. It's so strange, it's unpolished and not decorated with the faceted design. I kinda liked this as I then wore it in a stack with the flat edge pushed against another ring, but a very unique fabrication. These are so fun. I've seen them used as extenders and charm holders too although this one tends to open when off the finger, despite still having the tiny gold peg intact and the intricate fabrication to nest them together. Quite unbelievable considering age.

The word gimmel is derived from the French "jumelle," meaning twin, indicating the two separate bands that fold perfectly together to create one ring. Similar to a puzzle ring, it opens but the two separate bands remain interlocked, to represent the two parts of the couple joining together - two individuals but yet inseparable. How romantic!

These rings are becoming more and more scarce as they are typically fragile, and it is difficult to repair them. Due to their intricate nature they are not sizable.

French hallmarks for 18k gold.

Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it is difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box not included.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 4 1/4, a little over. Cute in a pinky stack.
Weighs 2.1 grams
2mm north south and deep

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. But this one great considering age, in terms of shape and how it nests together with the tiny peg inside. I will recommend that it of course needs a gentle hand. It does not need force to nest them together and you wouldn't want to damage the gold by trying to fold it together strongly, but once you get the knack of how they nest, they slide right into place : ) See notes above about unfinished edge.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
