ABOUT:
Such pretty movement to this French antique toi et moi ring from the Victorian period. Crafted in 18k gold and topped in platinum, the swirling ring shoulders lead up to the two elongated blue gemstones.
My favorite part about the ring is the engraving inside which reads "M.M. 1894". Always love to find dated pieces with that built in provenance.
The ring was sold to me as sapphires and they certainly look it with beautiful coloring but while they test as gems on my gem tester they don't test as high as sapphires. The ring was made before synthetic stones were invented and they certainly appear original to the piece so I think they may be sapphire doublets.
Pretty little piece with a great antique look, beautiful movement and the joy of knowing exactly when it was made.
Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Feel free to check my website or request more photos or video as I have many besides those allowed here.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 4 3/4. Weight is 2.8 grams. The ring face is 8.3mm north south. The little rose cuts are 1.9mm to 2.6mm as they taper up gradually larger.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Stable setting with good prongs showing a bit of wear here and there but holding everything firmly. The shank is a bit oval, it was probably sized down as this is one of the tricks they use to make rings smaller without bending the ring face as much and loosening the diamonds. I think it might fit a hair larger than the 4 3/4 on the mandrel because of the shape.
Signs of age to the stones, one of the smallest diamonds has some chips to the inside edge and is not fully round but it is so small that it is not really seen by the eye except in that it appears a bit frosty. The blue stones also have some nick, nibbles, chips. They have a beautiful color and are full of life, do not appear dull but have some scratches and nicks and the undersides of each of abrasions that are not really seen while wearing.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

All items hand picked by me, one at a time from all over the world. All listings individually written by me, and not AI, after studying each piece to discuss its beauties and its ; ) eccentricities (which I am picky to point out).
Many of my listings include group shots – I find the comparisons between pieces help show scale, diamond hues, etc. All items in group shots are inventory, but refer to the website to see what items have sold out and to watch for new listings from the grouping to appear on the home page.
