DOG Teeny Tiny French Antique Coral Charm Pendant Victorian 18k Gold Figural
DOG Teeny Tiny French Antique Coral Charm Pendant Victorian 18k Gold Figural
ABOUT:
Dainty and interesting figural three dimensional carved coral dog figure mounted in 18k with a little loop at the bottom to attach to a chain. French Victorian era piece, may have been converted to a charm from something else. Very nice quality and condition to the coral especially with the highly detailed engraved hunting dog heads, this was a popular motif during the Victorian period. The motif was used often in jewelry design for representing loyalty, devotion and faithfulness.
This is a Paris find and I can't find another similar, it is so unique and beautiful. Small piece so intricately hand carved, done by a talented artist I'd say!
No hallmarks remain.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Any props shown are not included.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
19mm top to bottom not including the jump ring. The gold base is 7mm.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Note that the loop is attached to the gold base so it is best as a charm on the wrist that can dangle as seen in pics. On a necklace chain it would hang upside down. Nose, eyes, legs, body, all complete and legible. One of the ears is chipped away leaving an unpolished area but the other ear is textured as well so it is not glaringly noticeable as the dog has its head up with its ears laid back. Some build up and evidence of age, I did not attempt to clean it.
All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. Surprisingly no damage to the coral pieces, they are pretty exceptional with no chips, cracks or even nicks. Just a little discoloration / build up in the recesses which is almost like patina helping the 3D designs stand out. I gave them a gentle wipe but did not want to brush or pick at the coral as it is a softer material. Some slight natural surface wear from years and years but absolutely still very legible and sharp. A little surface wear to the gold. The chain can get a little twisty here and there, and there is a spot in the center that has slightly discolored build up and doesn't bend like the other areas. At first I thought it was a repair but it was just buildup that I was able to scrape away for the most part, just a tiny bit remains in between the chains links. It still presents beautifully and a very unique piece but due to age - please note this is not a mint condition item.
I'd be delighted if you'd follow me in my shop! Thanks for stopping by!
