ABOUT:
A whimsical figural 3D spinner fob pendant! This would have been originally worn on a watch chain as a decorative element and has a great unisex design.
The ornate spinner portion is set with two bloodstones and a carnelian for color and variation. At the top of the frame that holds the spinner is perched a 3D winged dragon or chimera. I love his little curled tail and he has one tiny red ruby eye.
The dragon was a popular motif for the late 1800s to early 1900s period. These fantastical beasts were considered symbols of wealth and power, and worn as talismans for protection or amulets for good luck.
Found in France with their hallmark for 18k gold on the loop.
Any props or chains / additional items shown are not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
MEASUREMENTS:
28x22x13mm, the first height measurement does not include the two additional dangling jump rings. It weighs 7.1grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Gorgeous glowing patina. Some nibbles and tiny chips to the blunt beveled edges of the stones but they have a nice sheen and polish to the surface and no cracks so they do not appear heavily abraided or dull. One of the dangling jump rings has a bit of unevenness to the gold but is welded closed. The loop attached to the dragon is worn thin from rubbing over 125 years but it is not broken or flexible and is still able to hold itself. You can see it in the pics, it appears quite thin but gold is actually quite strong so even if a crack to the gold occurs, it would still be pinched shut and hold the loops. It could also very easily always be reinforced if desired for heavier wear. There is one ruby eye, the other is an open circle. Not sure if this was loss or just made that way?
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
