ABOUT:
A beautiful east west diamond stacker with seven chunky old mine cuts in an ornate setting. This Edwardian era piece is crafted in platinum with the sweetest engraved details on the vertical and top edges of the ring shoulders. The engravings depict the sweetest little forget me not flower amidst the wheat pattern and acanthus leaf detail.
My favorite part about it are the warm to pale yellow diamonds, three on each side. They were hand cut to face up brighter, so they are not dull or lifeless in any way, but light up with the warm to yellow hues in direct sun. Extra chunky cuts, they serve as a contrast to the center, whiter old mine cut diamond. Beautiful texture, lovely details, wonderful antique sparkle.
Around 1.1 carat total weight of old mine cut diamonds. The diamonds are propped in a slightly domed east west platform setting with the gallery / underside of the ring face open worked, allowing the light to shine through.
Stamped C&H Co. (I believe for Chapin & Hollister Co.) and "Plat" for platinum.
Stacks beautifully. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
Antique box not included.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
It is currently a size 7 1/2.
The ring face is 9.5mm north south by 19mm wide east west. It is 4.7mm tall off the finger to the crown of the center diamond. It weighs 4.7g.
Exact size and thereby carat weight is unknown as I would never deconstruct and remove them but estimates to just under 1.1 Carats total weight in diamonds for me.
The center is about 3.7mm, the six smaller diamonds about 3mm each give or take. All of the diamonds have high crowns and are a chunkier cushion cut.
CONDITION NOTES:
All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. The center stone is eye clean.
Gorgeous hues from warm to pale yellow to the side stone. It is actually widely accepted by collectors that the warm color of an old cut diamond is part of its appeal. Most of the rough diamonds at that time actually came from mines that produced warmer-colored diamonds so this is typical for many many old cuts.
The smaller diamonds have some light natural inclusions here or there as we typically see in antique stones, but as they are smaller, they serve their purpose well of adding plenty of sparkle with no dark or glaring or distracting issues to the eye, just a faint needle or wisp and 3 indented natural inclusions seen under magnification. No chips or cracks, no nibbles, nicks or damage. And the little bead prongs are in good shape. This gorgeous beauty was well cared for and apparently only gently worn.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
