ABOUT:
Antique cobblestone rings are among my personal favorites in my collection. Chunky old mine cut diamonds are just so special and when they are stacked into a setting to add texture to a ring face, they really give pieces the best diamond encrusted look.
This unique one has a shield shaped face, situated east west and raised just slightly, with the old mine cuts covering the ring face. At center is a bezel set sapphire, assumed to be synthetic (and selling it as such) as synthetic rubies and sapphires were even more popular than natural stones during this period, prized for their clarity and vibrant color. Such is the case with this ring, the sapphire really pops.
Found in France with their hallmark for 18k gold. The shank has a rosy hue from age and patina, sought after since it can't be found in modern gold.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos, especially with the zoomed images that I am required to present for detail.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 8 1/2
Weight 3.6g
Ring face is 10mm north south by 4.5mm tall off the finger. The sapphire is about 5.3 by 4.5mm.
There are 18 chunky old mine cuts measuring about 2mm each give or take, a handful slightly larger, and most all chunky cuts with lofty crowns. Total carat weight of the diamonds alone is around .8 carat without removing them for exact measurements.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The table facets of the sapphire have abrasions and there are some deeper scratches across the table and nicks. This is seen especially when the surface of the stone is caught in a reflection of direct light, much less noticeable in ambient light.
Typical antique diamonds with varying hues some faint natural inclusions typically seen. Nothing glaring when it comes to dark carbon and the ring is anything but lifeless. There are a few nicks and nibbles and one of the largest diamonds which flanks the sapphire has a chip to one girdle edge leaving a tiny gap between it and the edge of the setting that is eye visible if you are seeking it out. That stone also seems to reflect the light differently and appears a bit whiter compared to the others but all stones are original to the piece. The little bead prongs look good so this one is not overly delicate considering age although I always recommend a level of understanding when it comes to antique settings with many small stones over 100 years old. There are three solder bubbles at one shoulder of the ring, must have been done in the making as the piece has no repairs, evidence of a sizing to the back not seen while wearing.
Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

All items hand picked by me, one at a time from all over the world. All listings individually written by me, and not AI, after studying each piece to discuss its beauties and its ; ) eccentricities (which I am picky to point out).
Many of my listings include group shots – I find the comparisons between pieces help show scale, diamond hues, etc. All items in group shots are inventory, but refer to the website to see what items have sold out and to watch for new listings from the grouping to appear on the home page.
