ABOUT:
Unique French antique ring with a large footprint on the finger and a wonderful sparkle. At the center is a raised, bezel set old European cut diamond. This is surrounded by a halo of rose cut diamonds with milgrain outline. Nine diamonds in all totaling around 1 1/2 Carats. The piece is crafted in 18k buttery yellow gold with a sturdy ribbed shank. The ring face is topped in platinum as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white metal.
It's fun to wear to see the mix of old hand cut diamonds and how they each reflect the light in a different way, the old mine cut with a bright scintillation vs. the moody sparkle of the untamed rose cuts. This one has a great geometric look with the desirable target / bullseye pattern.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 8. The largest center diamond is about 5.7mm and is around .7 carat alone. The rose cuts are 3.5 to 4mm each. Like most rose cuts with their flat bottoms they have a lower comparative carat weight than a modern diamond but the surface area gives it the appearance of a larger carat stone. These have a nice dome on them as well compared to some antique rose cuts that are sliced thinner like discs. I would not remove the stones for exact measurements but using estimates it is around 1 1/2 carats total weight in diamonds.
The piece weighs 4.85 grams. It stands 6.2mm off the finger. Circular Ring face is 16mm in diameter.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All my pieces are pre owned and in estate condition. The center old mine cut has a pie shaped frosty inclusion. The diamond cutter situated it so that it would angle off the side under the edge facets. It extends towards the table but does cross into the table. It is eye visible and appears like a milky facet. Typical antique rougher / irregular rose cut diamonds with some faint natural inclusions, a speck or needle here or there seen mostly under magnification. I also can see a few nicks, some nibbled edges and also frosty spots that were likely always cut that way, typical for rose cuts of this size and age. A worn prong here or there also typical for age, to keep an eye on over time. Enough remain to hold them all securely but something to always keep an eye on with antique jewelry in original condition. Of course re-enforcement is always possible if desired by your local jeweler (you'd want to find someone with a laser welder) but most of my buyers opt for special occasion wear and original condition. The center diamond moves slightly in the bezel but the no girdle edges are visible, the diamond is surrounded and secure. It wears beautifully. But Due to age - please note this is not a mint condition item.
