Ellen's REGARD Ring DATE 1867 Antique VICTORIAN 14k Gold Engraved Ruby Emerald Diamond Skinny Band Acrostic Stacker
ABOUT:
It's that time of year again for Mouse to clean out her house! So I'll be bringing you some releases from my personal collection this week including this one!
Beautiful antique Victorian "REGARD" ring - this acrostic piece uses the first letter of each of the gems: Ruby Emerald Garnet Amethyst Ruby Diamond - to spell out the sentiment. Beautiful token of love or friendship. Also fun to wear because of the beautiful colors of the mixed gems. It makes the cutest little skinny band stacker with a wonderful pop of color and would be a fun pinky ring.
Making the piece even better is the personalization engraved inside: "Ellen. June 22nd, 1867" So we know exactly when it was made.
Open backed setting with a pie crust crinkle edge. There are actually some small enamel highlights along the side by each stone in a dark color. I thought it was just patina until I studied it more closely to see that the coloring there was intentional.
No hallmarks remain, but tests at 14k gold. I purchased the piece from a good friend here in Minnesota but I think it may be British in origin so it is possible it is 15k gold (I don't have a test for that since it is not one of the standards here). I enjoyed wearing this sweetie but I have a few other regard rings and a regard necklace from the same dealer friend so I decided to let this one go.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
It is a size 4 1/2. It weighs 1.75 grams.
The ring face is 4.8mm north south at the widest and 3.7mm tall off the finger.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Some wear to the enamel but they are such small spaces that are colored that it almost looks like patina. The diamond is a rough rose cut with irregular shape and frosty edges, possibly some nibbles but may have always been this way as it was hand cut. Some flea bites, nibbles and nicks to the stones especially to the amethyst which has some surface abrasions but the stones are small so it is nothing glaring, they have a beautiful color. A worn prong here and there to keep an eye on over time, this is as expected for age. I always recommend gentler wear on these very old pieces with small stones.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
