ABOUT:
Working my way through a big stock drop and this one jumps out of the pile. A vintage 24" gold chain with 59 natural emeralds in marquise cuts all set into bezels running all the way around.
Fabulous and versatile piece to wear layered to add color or alone. You can wear it long or depending on your measurements and the use of an extender, it could possibly be doubled as a choker. You can also check the length to even see if it could work wrapped a bunch of times as a bracelet. It has a clasp on one end which allows for easier styling.
Found in France, this is crafted in 14k gold with their symbol hallmark and tested. All natural emeralds with slightly varying hues.
Props and additional items not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos, especially with the zoomed images that I am required to present for detail.
MEASUREMENTS:
It weighs 6.75 grams. It's 24 1/4 inches long.
The emerald are each about 5.5x2.5mm give or take measuring the visible portions of the stones.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Typical natural emeralds each with varying inclusions including frosty and milky spots and some darker carbon spots as well. Some inclusions carry up to the surface as is typical also for natural emeralds. As a result and with age and wear, there are some hairline cracks, I count 7 in all out of the 59 stones. Two of the seven are actually a larger crack with some shards of loss to the stone, and one of those two has loss to the tip on one end. All the stones are stable and held by their bezels and with normal wear this is not really evident as they fill the marquise bezel spaces, I had to study each stone to seek this out but with so many vintage emeralds in one piece we expect to see this with wear due to their structures almost always having these types of inclusions. The ones with inclusions carrying up to the surface are higher in number than the 7 stones with hairline cracks but again this is not evident while wearing.
Note that with the way the stones crop out the back of the bezels, the necklace doesn't lie perfectly flat and facing out at all times. This is how it was intended and how it was made - not to lie flat but to allow you to see the entire shape of the gemstones while wearing so it can flip and roll but always with the beautiful color evident.
Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and flow, but it appears darker in color with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
My disclaimer with all my pieces - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition.
I would be delighted if you'd follow me in my shop. Thanks for stopping by!
