ABOUT:
A unique antique toi et moi ring. Wow, the color of this emerald! It is set at an angle next to a chunky old mine cut diamond for an interesting asymmetrical geometry. The ring shoulders have swirling details to the gold, elegantly and gradually twisting up to the ring face.

The tradition of giving toi et moi rings to represent the love between two people dates back centuries, but the style was brought to the attention of a wider audience when Napoleon Bonaparte proposed to Joséphine de Beauharnais with one. Other famous rings include the toi et moi given to Jacqueline Onassis by John F Kennedy in 1953, which was also an emerald and diamond piece, but the popularity of this two-part style of ring was at its peak during the Edwardian and Belle Époque periods.

There are some stamps inside but I cannot make them out. Found in Sweden, it tests at 14k gold.

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos, especially with the zoomed images that I am required to present for detail.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

Size 6 1/4.
Weight 2.2g
The ring face is 7.8mm north south. The ring stands about 4.2mm tall off the finger.
The diamond is about 4.4 by 3.6mm and a super chunky cut, measuring about 1/3 carat.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
This one needs gentler wear. Each stone has one prong completely worn back. The diamond has a little bit better length, while the emerald has several worn prongs. It is still held without movement but for regular wear, you'd probably want to have it reinforced which would be something to discuss with your local jeweler to determine cost.

The diamond faces up bright white which is an awesome contrast to the vibrant true green of the emerald. They both have natural inclusions. The diamond has a carbon spot and some frosty specks around the culet. It has an indented natural inclusion at a wider part of the girdle. The emerald has a nick to the inside edge of the girdle but still appears complete in its shape within the setting until you seek it out.

Please note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.

Please also note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

All items hand picked by me, one at a time from all over the world. All listings individually written by me, and not AI, after studying each piece to discuss its beauties and its ; ) eccentricities (which I am picky to point out).

Many of my listings include group shots – I find the comparisons between pieces help show scale, diamond hues, etc. All items in group shots are inventory, but refer to the website to see what items have sold out and to watch for new listings from the grouping to appear on the home page.
