Exceptional Antique EYE CLEAN Old Mine Cut DIAMOND 1.7 Carat East West Platinum Halo Ring Edwardian Cluster
Exceptional Antique EYE CLEAN Old Mine Cut DIAMOND 1.7 Carat East West Platinum Halo Ring Edwardian Cluster
ABOUT:
This one stopped me in my tracks when I saw it - I found the setting so unique and interesting with the lightly scalloped east west marquise shape. I honestly haven't seen one like it (and I look at a thousand of pieces of jewelry a day!) Of course the center diamond is a star - It is exceptional, completely eye clean, measuring about 1.1 carat alone with a wonderful fire. It is surrounded by a halo of additional old mine cuts for added sparkle. This piece has it all - glitter, height, geometry and an uncommon design, making it stand out from other pieces in the jewelry box. It is quite striking in size with prongs in good shape (making it ready for regular wear) and plenty of sparkle with the 15 diamonds and nice carat weight, but it somehow manages to still feel delicate with the intricate pierced details, milgrain outlines and scalloped platinum work.
Around 1.7 carats total weight of old mine cut diamonds make this special piece an impactful something to behold! This antique piece from the Edwardian era is crafted in platinum, no hallmarks remain. The diamonds are propped in a slightly domed east west setting with the gallery / underside of the ring face decoratively open worked, allowing the light to shine through.
I purchased the piece at a jewelry store in Wisconsin near where I grew up, while accompanying my husband on a work trip and between visiting my cousins : ). I always seek out antiques even when traveling for fun or on vacation and this one was a pleasant surprise. I purchased several pieces from that store but this one is my favorite. I'm sad to let her go but I wore her to the Milwaukee Brewer game so that was fun. : )
This would be a wonderful gift - right hand ring, statement piece, or stacker. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
Antique box not included.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
It is currently a size 7, a little over but does not reach 7 1/4. Should be sizable but I always recommend showing pictures to your local jeweler for sizing advice since everyone's skill and opinion are different - you wouldn't want to bend the ring face for fear of loosening the stones.
The ring face is 12.5mm north south by 18mm wide east west. It is 5.4mm tall off the finger to the high crown of the center diamond. It weighs 5.4g.
Exact size and thereby carat weight is unknown as I would never deconstruct and remove them but estimates to around 1.7 Carats total weight in diamonds.
The center is about 6mm with a nice chunky cut measuring around 1.1 carat alone. The outlining diamonds are 2mm for the ten on the north and south edges of the halo, with the one on each end of the east west setting measuring slightly larger at about 2.3mm. There are two additional little single cut accents on each side of the center diamond where the design comes to a point, measuring about 1.3mm each. Most of the diamonds have high crowns and are a chunkier cushion cut.
It's a sparkle fest.
CONDITION NOTES:
All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. The center diamond is exceptional. I love antique diamonds, even those with inclusions or hues typical for the time, because some of those were still among the best available in the market during that period, and were expertly cut by hand to enhance their best characteristics. So I don’t often like to compare antique stones against modern grading standards - BUT This diamond, for an old stone has a better than most clarity and a particularly lovely fire reflecting a noticeable flash with the other colors of the rainbow. So even though the stone was made long before the 4 C's existed, it stands out from the pack. Even studying the center stone under strong, lit magnification there is nothing glaring to detect. It is a fabulous stone.
The smaller diamonds have some light natural inclusions here or there as we typically see in antique stones, but as they are smaller, they serve their purpose well of adding plenty of sparkle with no dark or glaring or distracting issues to the eye. No chips or cracks, no nibble, nicks or damage. And the little bead prongs are in good shape. This gorgeous beauty from Wisconsin was very well cared for and likely only worn on special occasions.
But as always - Due to age - please note this is not a mint condition item.
