Exceptional French Vintage to Antique 2.3 CARAT Transitional Cut DIAMOND Eye Clean Solitaire Engagement Ring 18k White Gold Fiery Stacker
ABOUT:
Definitely one of my best solitaires all time. This fiery beauty is just so fun to wear. It measures around 2.3 carats with the natural vintage to antique transitional cut diamond suspended in tall prongs to make the stone appear even larger by bringing it closer to the beholder. The stone is quite spready so if you were to use millimeter measurements, it actually faces up with the appearance of a 2.5 carat stone. The beautiful older cut diamond has an Amazing fire and is nearly eye clean. This French to vintage antique piece is from the Art Deco period, crafted and hallmarked for 18k white gold.
A simple and elegant shank propping the chunky cut diamond allows the stone to be the star of the show and it is worthy of the attention for sure. Adding to its appeal, the prongs are holding the diamond securely on all sides making this beauty ready for regular wear. The setting makes me think of the tricks of professional fisherman, who hold the fish closer to the camera to make it appear at its largest. The way this stone pops off the hand, it is just so amazing to wear. It stacks well with bands, some examples seen in photos.
(See my website for additional photos).
It was sold to me as M/N in color - which is a personal favorite of mine to get that palest yellow warmth in vintage stones. I noticed the photos in the warm morning sun seemed to warm up the diamond but it actually faces up quite white in other lighting conditions which I find quite fun. This is an example of how the Four C's scale for modern machine cut stones don't always do vintage and antique stones justice. You can actually see in the pictures how the piece in one area of direct light appears that lovely pale yellow, but the same angle in slightly different light and it appears quite white! I love to find these eccentricities in these special older stones. Hopefully the photos in various lighting condition help as they are a true representation of how the piece responds to sun and ambient light.
I love vintage diamonds, even those with inclusions and hues and eccentricities typical for the time, because some of those were still among the best available in the market during that period, and were expertly cut to enhance their best characteristics. BUT This diamond, for an older and larger stone has particularly amazing clarity and a lovely fire reflecting a noticeable flash with the other colors of the rainbow. It's certainly one of my best in terms of quality. And again while I am not reliant on the Four C's for vintage, it was given a scale of VS2 from the reputable dealer I purchased it from.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
A slightly snug Size 7. But sizable with good prongs and the external hallmarks at the back are not in the center so your jeweler should be able to work around them for sizing.
The diamond measures about 8.6mm. I do not remove antique stones from their settings for exact measurements but estimates to around 2.3 carats which is what it was sold to me as. Being a spready transitional cut, with the 8.6mm width it actually ready closer to 2.5 carats while wearing. It stands a proud 8mm tall off the finger, suspending the gorgeous diamond to be viewable from all sides.
The piece weighs 3.3 grams.
CONDITION NOTES:
Typical vintage to antique diamond characteristics in that it has a frosted girdle, which adds to the authenticity of the old cut stone (we'd have concerns about age if it were perfectly polished). The stone is in perfect condition with no damage. With the VS2 clarity rating, it would have actually scored higher but for one needle inclusion on one outside edge that extends towards the girdle. It is very slightly eye visible and leads to a tiny indented natural "notch" to the girdle which is not eye visible but seen under magnification. GIA defines this as a dent that occurs under the surface of a diamond as a result of the diamond cutter's decision not to polish it off, because doing so could end up harming the diamond so the cutters would work around it - this is not considered a defect or blemish. That is really the only thing to report about this special ring, it is otherwise crystal clear. Exceptional fire to this diamond. One of the best solitaires I have ever sourced, I am in love with the color.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
