ABOUT:

Personal collection release!  Although to be honest, it is one of my favorite pieces in my jewelry box, and certainly the most interesting watch key I have come across.  I decided to let it go because I have another floral hand piece and I just don't need that many pendants (but why?! : (  )

This one is quite special though in my opinion.  The most ornate gauntlet / gloved hand / fist I have seen - this early Victorian piece is 14k gold cased with the gorgeous embossed designs on both sides of the hand which swivels around the center of the key.  So it can spin while you wear it, it is a very fun, very antique addition to a neckmess.  Larger size piece though, so it is substantial enough to wear alone.  Crisp swirl and foliate designs, the cuffs are acanthus leaves with rose floral details around the cuff in the textbook embossed design we see on ornate Georgian and Victorian pieces.  Almost seems a nod to the green man or north wind motif the way the gauntlet has a naturalist design.  The inner key workings are steel for strength.

I got this from a long standing dealer friend of mine in Texas.

Chain not included.  No hallmarks detected. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.

MEASUREMENTS:

The piece measures about a 49mm (1.9 inch) by 26mm.  It weighs 8.2 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition.  Under magnification only - Some wear to the gold casing revealing some underlying silver in a few spots but still reads a lovely pale gold color with appropriate patina in the recesses to make the designs pop and holds a strong 14k test.   Note though that it is paler in color compared to my French antique 18k pieces. Some wear and discoloration to the steel key at the end.   There are a few darker spots of patina. Still very legible and interesting design. Surface wear and scratching from use over the years.  Overall it has held its shape very well.

But Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition.
