ABOUT:
An Art Deco 1 1/3 carat five stone transitional and old mine cut diamond band (1.35ctw).
I try to acquire as many diamond bands as I can because they are so versatile and wearable that they are always very popular.
The antique diamonds are set in a timeless prong setting. Perfect to stack. And the prongs are in good shape which we love to find on older pieces, making this one ready for regular wear. Four of the diamonds are transitional cuts with one second from the end an old mine cut but this is seen under magnification, I don't find them reflecting the light much differently.
Found in England, with their hallmarks for 18k and platinum. The piece is in yellow gold with the prongs in platinum as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white metal.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
A size 7 1/4. It weighs 3 grams.
The center diamond is 5mm, about half carat alone. The flanking two stones are 4.3mm each and the diamonds on each end are about 3.3mm.
Exact carat weight is unknown as I would not remove the stones from the antique setting but estimated total weight of around 1 1/3 carat / 1.35Ctw.
Stands 4.5mm off the finger, 5.5mm north to south and 20mm east west for all five diamonds.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Typical antique diamonds that have some natural inclusions, eye visible to slightly eye visible, two appearing quite frosty overall. Some of what is seen is also due to the smaller platinum circles at the base of each prong setting, where the diamonds can reflect the inside edge of the metal. Also typical in that they have a slight warmth but no yellow hues and they are not dingy or lifeless. One of the smallest stones has an indented natural inclusion leaving an unpolished side facet, seen only under magnification. I would have priced it higher if the diamonds were on the exceptional end, but these are more typical of what we see for the period, cut in much more limited supply before the Four C's was invented for modern stones.
Shank is sturdy but a bit thin to the back. The prongs are excellent and ready for regular wear.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
