ABOUT:
Beautiful Victorian antique Old Mine Cut five stone diamond ring in 18k gold set in a belcher / buttercup mount setting. The diamonds taper in size with the largest at center gradually scaling down. It looks like the prongs have been reinforced making this beauty ready for more regular wear. Lovely sparkle and that delicious antique 18k gold setting. A sweetie for stacking in the timeless and sought after antique five stone form totaling almost half a carat.
British hallmarks for 18k, Birmingham. The date later is partially worn but it is an antique hallmark, looks to me like the letter stamp for 1889.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size: 6
The center stone is about 3.9x3.7mm and about a quarter carat.
The flanking two are about 2.7mm and the end stones each about 2.2mm for a total carat weight of about .5 carat - this is an estimate as I would not remove them.
Ring face: 5.3mm north south
Height off finger: 3.7mm tall.
Weight: 2.2g.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
One of the end stones is a later brilliant cut and must be a replacement, it has a circular frost inclusion but it is the smallest stone so it is not super evident. There is a bit of patina in the recesses of the setting on one side.
Under magnification the other diamonds have natural frosty inclusions typical for antique diamonds which can't really be graded using modern day standards for machine cut stones. These are not glaringly visible as the stones are small and the diamonds are still bright and lively but two do appear quite frosty mostly under magnification.
I was able to lighten this up after photographing it but a bit remains, it just needs another gentle soak and brushing to polish some of that out if desired.
The prongs were reinforced so it is ready for more regular wear.
Very sweet piece from a very special era. I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop! : )
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

All items hand picked by me, one at a time from all over the world. All listings individually written by me, and not AI, after studying each piece to discuss its beauties and its ; ) eccentricities (which I am picky to point out).
Many of my listings include group shots – I find the comparisons between pieces help show scale, diamond hues, etc. All items in group shots are inventory, but refer to the website to see what items have sold out and to watch for new listings from the grouping to appear on the home page.
