FLORAL 1 Carat Daisy Cluster Old Mine Cut Diamond Earrings 18k Gold Silver Dangle Edwardian Figural
FLORAL 1 Carat Daisy Cluster Old Mine Cut Diamond Earrings 18k Gold Silver Dangle Edwardian Figural
ABOUT:
Another fav release from my personal collection - these floral and leaf dangle earrings. Each one is set with 15 old mine cut diamonds set into two daisy clusters with stems and leaves in between.
The backs of the earrings are a mix of yellow and rosy gold and they are topped in silver as was customary to set diamonds in a white metal during this period. The posts and push backs are white gold, I think added later as the flower drops may have been components of another piece?
Nice and chunky cuts to the old mine cut diamonds with tall, long triangular scissor cuts, almost like a mix of old mine and French cuts, a unique variation and decision made by the expert diamond cutter who hand cut them so long ago.
French hallmarks on the post for 18k and silver.
Antique box is not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
28mm top to bottom. 8.4mm wide. The largest diamonds are about 2.7mm, the others are 1.5 to 2mm. With all the stones there is at least 1 carat total weight in diamonds. The pair weighs 4.6 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. The patina varies from one earring to the other, as on one the silver is darker and on the other, the darkness is missing but a sort of unpolished look remains in the recesses. This would be more noticeable when they are held side by side than it would be on two sides of the head while worn. There is some adhesive residue around / behind one of the clusters that is not really eye visible aside from probably affecting how the small diamond might reflect the light. With my old pieces with multiple little stones, I really avoid over cleaning or polishing them for fear of knocking anything loose. They are fine to wear as earrings are gently worn by nature although I wouldn't sleep or shower with them on just to try and handle them as gently as I can. None of the stones move but just something I always recommend on my antique pieces with multiple small stones.
A few nicks and some frosty spots to the very old mine cuts including small natural inclusions. No cracks or glaring chips, they all appear complete to the eye in the setting. Some of the frostiness may have always been there, but some of the nicks possibly from age. Some warm hues, some of that from how they reflect the varying patina to the setting. Completely functional and beautiful to wear, but I always try to be really picky in my listings and mention everything I see studying the pieces under magnfication.
But of course Due to age, please note this is not a mint condition item.
I dearly love, collect, use and sell antiques so please check out my other listings and thanks so much for stopping by my shop!
