ABOUT:
Personal collection release - I acquired this one in Scandinavia. The way it wings out with the movable panels, my husband refers to it as "The Golden Snitch." : )
It's a romantic one with the little secret - this antique band has two panel doors, one on each side that are hinged at the back, so that you can open the ring at the shoulders of each side revealing open space within the ring where it could have held braided hair or some other small memento. The ring face is rectangular and engraved with the flower, with engraved designs on each panel as well, so many wonderful elements.
The old hallmarks reveal to us that this one dates to 1862 and was made by Ernst G. Markstrem of Uppsala. It is crafted in 18k gold.
For being such an intricate antique, the piece is quite sturdy with a nice hand feel. With the eternity band design, it is beautiful to wear, and of course the secret panels make it such a great conversation piece.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 5 1/2. 5.3mm north to south and 2mm thick / deep. It weighs 2.6 grams.
Quite uncommon and special.
Antique box is not included. Please note the detailed measurements that I always provide, as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures where I am required to show zoomed in detail.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. Completely sturdy and stable, one panel bows ever so slightly until you nest it in, but this is not noticeable while wearing. The gold panels flex to allow you to gently open them at the rivet details and uses tension to be held in place once guided back into the little slots under the ring face. I have been handling it a lot and am surprised at the sturdiness, clearly well made and high quality. It is fabricated with thin panels of gold that need to flex and there are some curves and ripples so please look for that in photos. Always recommend a gentle hand when dealing with tiny, intricate, 160 year old hinges! : ). One of the rivets is worn but you can still carefully open the panel with tension.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
