ABOUT:

My favorite stone in all the world - the Perpignan garnet! These special jewels are trademarked and made only in that area of Catalonia France. There have only ever been a small handful of makers in all the world at a time that were trained in the multi step process of creating these special pieces.

This is an antique one I purchased when I visited Perpignan, the day I went to the jewelry exposition / display - (feel free to ask me about this, I have tons of information about them I can share but don't want to overwhelm the listing).

It's one of my favorite pieces from the trip because it is quite uncommon to see them in this form with the floral head and the overlapping leaf details dangling down from the stem which holds the bale. This one holds three Perpignan garnets in all, in various sizes and settings incorporated into the floral design.

These older ones read more purple in color with a lighter pinkish glow from within.

You could add it to an earring, bracelet or necklace chain.

This is an older one with antique patina to the gold. These pieces are just so special and so unique, specific to the region in France where they were passed down from mothers to daughters as a symbol of pride of their Catalonian heritage. Symbols of pride and highly collectible to antique jewelry enthusiasts as much as ever today!

No hallmarks remain, there are some tool marks to the back so it is possible with was a brooch at one time?

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.

MEASUREMENTS:
Top to bottom dangle is 28mm not including the dangling bale. 15mm wide.

It weighs 2.5 grams. The largest garnet in the buttercup scalloped floral head is about 5.5mm to give you an idea of scale.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Some patina to the gold and the tool marks to the loop which has a different patina. There is a ding to one of the domed backs. One has a chip on one edge but it's tucked against the bezel so it still appears complete in the setting. A few nibbles and some spotting and age to the foil back. Gorgeous glowing color. The rich color helps mask the wear and it doesn't appear dull. Still very wearable and special!

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
