ABOUT:
My next stock drop is an assortment of charms and pendants! Most of these I purchased on my inventory trips to Europe earlier this summer. A few of these are personal collection releases (wink wink to those of you who know about my garnet hoarding, floral, French, antique jewelry problem - whoopsie!)
This French antique pendant gives a nod to the giardinetti style of jewelry with the swirling leaf details. Georgian era piece crafted in 18k gold and topped in silver as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white metal.
The diamonds have a nice brightness and reflectivity to the foil backing for all over sparkle. Often times these closed back settings can appear muddy or rusty but these remain bright and flashy. The Larger diamonds are in collet settings that are then prong set, a customary fabrication we often see in French antiques from the period. The back is gold washed so as to not leave tarnish on the decollette, also customary fabrication.
While exact carat weight is unknown with this type of stone setting (as I would never remove them from the antique piece) the two largest diamonds are each about 5mm / face up at about half a carat each so the pendant as a whole appears as over a carat worth of a diamonds.
The loop is stamped for 18k and silver. The bale is also stamped with the French mark for 18k and a goldsmith stamp, but is a later addition, being a more modern design from what would have been there originally. The patina is a pretty close match to the loop though.
Additional items shown in photos not included, props, dishes, mice ; ) also not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
MEASUREMENTS:
Dimensions: 32mm to the top of the attached loop (not including the large bale) by 21mm wide. It is 6mm deep.
Weight: a sturdy 7.4g
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The left side largest diamond has a warmer color, typical for the period. The largest right side diamond has shallow flakes of loss in one small area leaving a small unpolished texture but this is not glaring as the stone still appears complete in its original shape in the setting. The smaller diamonds are typical rough cut rose cuts, likely thinly sliced with some frosty spots, warmth to gray from the setting, uneven edges, they tend to always look this way when they are this age. Plenty of antique patina which most of my buyers prefer.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
I dearly love, wear and sell antique jewelry so please check out my other listings and thanks so much for stopping by my shop!
