FLORAL Tri Color 18k Gold Blue Opal Garnet Halo Antique FRENCH Traditional Wedding Ring Stacker
FLORAL Tri Color 18k Gold Blue Opal Garnet Halo Antique FRENCH Traditional Wedding Ring Stacker
ABOUT:
Romantic French regional antique ring in tricolor 18k gold, with a gorgeous blue opal at the center surrounded by a halo of little garnets. At each shoulder is a floral detail with rose gold glower and green gold leaves. Beautiful rich antique gold patina. It dates to the Victorian / Napoleon III era.
I found this is Belgium but it is French in origin, as the two countries' histories were intertwined.
The fabulous book, "Traditional French Jewellery" by Mike Fieggen depicts these. They are named "Ring a la Francaise" and were offered as wedding rings in the 1800s in Normandy, Brittany and Poitou.
I love French traditional jewelry and try to acquire and learn as much about it as I can so this one really spoke to me.
This style of ring are known to have delicate fabrication so in this case, the ring face was added to a later, sturdier shank. I am suspecting the opal is a replacement as well because it has very little wear and a lovely glossy sheen compared to the garnets which have some abrasions. But still beautiful coloring and wonderful, very antique and very French traditional design.
No hallmarks remain but sold to me as 18k (both the face and the later shank) and tested to confirm.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
The ring is a size 6 3/4 on my mandrel.
The ring face is 9mm north south.
The ring weight is 2.4 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
See above.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
