The sweetest little sweetie! This isn't my biggest or most fancy or most expensive solitaire but it is up there with my favorites in the shop! The design is such a treat!
Stepped down from the square ring face that holds a little Old European cut diamond, we see the beautiful forget me not / orange blossom floral details at each shoulder. The square ring face being in white gold is meant to serve as an illusion setting to make the diamond look larger by surrounding it with a white metal.
What makes it even more interesting is the design includes the stem of the flower made in a contrasting white gold, woven amidst the buttery yellow gold shoulders. Such beautiful details! I've sold a ton of these dainty Art Deco cuties over the years but this one really stands out to me with the intricacy of the sweet flower on stem design that I have not seen before.
When I took a peek at the hallmark, I was pleasantly surprised, well not really surprised, to see that it is made by the JR Wood & Sons jewelry company. And the reason I say not surprised is because they were trend setters in the Victorian era and onward especially for wedding jewelry. The company was founded in the 1850s. They made some of the best jewelry on the market in New York during the antique period.
Stamped 14k inside with the Wood hallmark. It has an old serial number stamped on the other side. I wonder if a deep dive into the old JR Wood Catalogs could bring up the exact rendering from the antique period!
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6 3/4
This should be a candidate for sizing as the prongs are good. Usually they say within 2 sizes is a good guide and they often times make the shank more oval to accommodate sizing without bending the ring face as much.
The diamond is 3.4mm with the square setting meant to serve as an illusion setting to make the stone look bigger, the setting being 5.2mm in diameter.
The ring stands 5.9mm off the finger to the top of the diamond.
The ring weight is 2.75 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Beautiful bright color and fire but typical for antique stones it does have very faint natural inclusions. No dark carbon, just a tiny speck here or there seen under magnificaiton. Romantic little piece with such beautiful details!
Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
