ABOUT:

It's that time of year again for Mouse to clean out her house! So I'll be bringing you some releases from my personal collection this week including this one!

I love the drama of a good navette ring and I kept this one in my personal collection because I found it uncommon to see it consist of four large diamonds. Usually we see navettes as a cluster of smaller stones so this one shines with the chunky old mine cuts in graduating sizes set in a line.

Also special are the diamonds in that most of the stones are eye clean which can be difficult to find in antique hand cut stones that were produced in much more limited supply compared to the millions of carats of modern diamonds produced each year. Very nice fire to them as well, and wow the high crowns on these antique beauties - it is fun to view the piece from the side to see how the varying hand cuts crop out of the ring face. Such a cool ring, I will miss her!

Found in France with their hallmarks for 18k gold and platinum for the ring face as was customary to set diamonds in a white metal. The shank has a lovely rosy hue. The hallmarks are slightly off center of the back so they should be avoidable in a sizing, but something to discuss with your local jeweler as far as how much adjusting they would be comfortable with.

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

It is a size 4 3/4. It weighs 2.95grams.
The ring face is 22mm north south by 5.7mm wide.
The two larger diamonds are each around 5mm give or take, cushion cut measuring over a half carat each. The two smaller diamonds are around 3.2mm cushion cuts.

I would never deconstruct the piece and remove them but estimates to around 1.5 carat total weight in diamonds according to my measurements and it was sold to me as such as well.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

The ring face shifts/ angles slightly sometimes while wearing. This is not a condition issue at all, it's just a characteristic of the piece I thought I would mention but it's beautiful to wear, maybe it's just due to its size on my finger.

As mentioned the diamonds are mostly eye clean with the exception of one curved indented natural inclusion on the surface of the second largest stone, right on the very edge near the prongs. The largest stone having really exceptional clarity with no inclusions to be found even under strong magnification. The other stones have a tiny natural needle inclusion, curl or speck here or there but these are only seen under magnification. Typical for antique diamonds (and often sought after by collectors), two have a warmth in color, with one having the warmth read a bit pale yellow under magnification and the other a more brown warmth. They do not read as colored diamonds while wearing but the warmth can be seen if studied in direct lighting conditions. A worn prong here or there typical for age but none of the stones move. Fiery diamonds with chunky cuts - special stones!

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
