THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT ~
Type: Ring
Materials: 18k Gold, Diamond, Silver
Size: 6 3/4
Era: Georgian (1837-1901)

ABOUT:

Ever popular French antique seven stone stacker band ring in 18k gold with 7 oval rose cut diamonds set in silver collets as was customary during the time to set the diamonds in white metal. The two end diamonds have the ovals set east to west where the others are north to south. Kind of a subtle but interesting design and fabricationn.

The shank is a warm rosy gold along with the back of the ring face, the correct and customary fabrication for these half hoops. Plenty of patina to the silver and the gold from age.

Exact depth and thereby carat weight is unknown as I would never remove them from the setting. But like most rose cuts they have a lower carat weight but the surface area gives it the appearance of a larger carat stone. The center stone's visible portion (as it widens out some in the collet) is 4.5 by 3.5mm. They taper down from there as they extend to the end.

HALLMARKS:
French hallmarks for 18k and silver but the hallmarks are more recent than when the ring was made.

Antique box is not included.

VIDEO Note - the ring offered is the bottom one on the middle finger, I included the others to show coloring comparisons between the antique stones.

MEASUREMENTS:
Currently measures a size 6 3/4. Weighs 1.6 Grams.

Ring face is 6mm north to south on the finger and end diamond to end diamond is 20mm wide east to west.

CONDITION NOTES:

All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. The diamonds read warm to gray from age to the foil. Some are a bit darker from deterioration. Some dark spots under magnification which may be inclusions. Typical antique diamonds with some frosty spots as well. One has a shallow flake of loss on one outside edge right up to the collet, it still appears complete to the eye but you can catch the frosty surface if you study it up close in a reflection. Two have nicks on the edge / a rough edge, again seen under magnification. Some wear to the collets from age.

Lots of patina which could be cleaned up but most of my buyers prefer original condition. Shank is slightly out of round but still sturdy. Still a fun stacker with a wonderful antique look. But due to age, please note this is not a mint condition item. These need more careful wear as the closed / foiled settings should not get wet as the moisture causes deterioration to the foil and discoloration.
