ABOUT:
A rare and quite substantial double diamond clasp / extender / connector.
Fabulous double old mine cut diamonds totaling 1.3 carat, each unique in their cuts set in sleek and smooth bezels. With the bezel settings I can't see the edges of the stone but one has some Peruzzi tendencies with the large X at center. The other is extra chunky with a high crown that crops out of the bezel.
These old clasps are hard to come by as this is a salvaged antique one and not a modern reproduction. These make excellent and functional pendants, where you can attached a chain to each side, wear it to the front, side or back, or open the clasp to hang the one side without the clip on a necklace or bracelet chain as a charm. They are also used as extenders, connectors or as a clasp as it was originally intended. Functional and sparkly, fun to put to use in any mix and match neck messes / neckstacks.
With French hallmarks on the tongue insert for 18k gold, this Art Deco piece is crafted in 18k gold with the bezels in platinum. The dangling jump rings on each end are yellow gold in 18k so it can be worn with any color.
Functions perfectly with sturdy fabrication, the clasp has great tension with the tongue insert securing with a snap and the added safety clip on the side. Excellent quality, sought after natural antique diamonds.
Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos, especially with the zoomed images that I am required to present for detail.
MEASUREMENTS:
17mm end to end not including the gold jump rings. Adding the jump rings it is 23mm long and it is 6.1mm deep to the high crown of the diamond. It weighs 2.7 grams.
The diamonds measure 5.3 to 5.5mm depending on which way you measure the cushion cuts. The smaller one is over 0.6 carat, the other one has a super high crown and measures closer to .7 carat conservatively. With the clasp at the back, I can't get an exact depth measurement and I would not remove them but estimated total diamond weight is at least 1.3 carat.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Eye clean diamonds amazing to find compared to what is typical for the period when diamonds were cut in much more limited supply. One appears a bit frosty in photos but this is because the back of the clasp appears through the stone so you can see the white metal and it is hard to reach around the edges to get it perfectly clean but from an inclusions standpoint the stones are excellent. No chips or damage varying slight warmth in color typical for the period again affected by the bezel setting but facing up brighter. Excellent quality piece, it's a treasure.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
