I am selling an assortment of vintage to antique jewelry and rings which I have hunted for and gathered from around the world. Some examples seen in the last photo - thanks for stopping by!
ABOUT:
Classic French antique dormeuse / sleeper dangle earrings in 18k gold each holding 3 rose cut diamonds.
Each one holds a 4.8 to 5mm old rose cut diamond with an open back, in the tall linear prongs with a two additional rose cuts at the top for added sparkle. Victorian era pair of earrings that I acquired in France. So eye catching and elegant in the lovely antique gold. The dangles are attached to the ear posts by loops so that they can move to catch the light and sparkle. We often see rose cuts in closed back settings that age over time, nice that these are open backed, nice and spready, bright and clear. Interesting teardrop design to the gold work which I have not seen before.
Really beautiful and interesting settings with bright and sparkling diamonds. Would be a beautiful something old for a bride. Please note the measurements! They are always included but I often get feedback about earrings that they are smaller than expected - millimeter measurements are always below! : )
Found in France with their hallmarks for 18k gold.
The posts latch in to the hinged back.
Antique box is not included. Please note the detailed measurements that I always provide, as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures where I am required to show zoomed in detail.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
They measure about 19 mm top to bottom from the top of the ear wire to the base of the earring.
The largest rose cuts are about 4.8 to 5mm each, someone thinly sliced and suspended in the prongs to catch the light and sparkle. I don't remove stones from antique settings for measuring but these largest stones each face up around the size of a half carat diamond each. The other two rose cuts on each earring are smaller, around 1.5 and 2mm on each earring. Actual carat weight is smaller and can't be determined without removing but these face up to over 1 carat total diamond weight for the pair (actual carat weight is less);.
This pair of earrings weighs 4.7 grams combined.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Tight and springy hinges, better than many dormeuse that can be found. They snap closed and wear securely. One diamond is quite nibbled around the girdle, which we sometimes find on these thin rose cuts because the girdles are thin. It also has a shallow flake of loss to the flat underside leaving a frosty spot. It appears complete in the setting but you can see the frosty spot. The other is in better condition with just one small frosty inclusions slightly eye visible. They are both well held in the prongs but the way the stones are suspended and with the nibbles to the one, I probably wouldn't sleep in them as they are 100 years old so why risk it. Certainly wearable for regular daytime wear though!
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

Many of my listings include group shots – I find the comparisons between pieces help show scale, diamond hues, etc. All items in group shots are inventory, but refer to the website to see what items have sold out and to watch for new listings from the grouping to appear on the home page.
