ABOUT:
French antique unisex gypsy ring set with .3 carat (approx) old mine cut diamond in a domed setting. The diamond has a nice high crown and crops out of the ring face.
The gypsy ring was incredibly popular during the Victorian era into the early 1900s and its timeless design remains an ever favored and wearable choice for today. This ring is substantial enough to wear alone but also layers well with other pieces. Nice and sturdy hand feel with a great sparkle.
This bears the French hallmark for 18k gold, it has a warm, rosy patina. Not the vibrant pink rose gold of today but definitely a rosy hue.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Currently a size 6 1/4. The diamond is about 4mm and around .3 carat. I would not remove it for an exact measurement but it widens out a further unknown amount in the setting. Ring face is 6.5mm north south, tapering towards the back but remaining wide. It stands 3.5mm off the finger.
Ring weighs 5.2g.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
As is typical for antique diamonds, it has some natural frosty inclusions that are eye visible. It consists of several frosty needles above the culet that reflect around the stone giving it a frosty appearance. Especially when facing up, so it's quite a quirky antique stone. There is one indented natural inclusion on one of the side facets but that is seen more under magnification. The stone moves north south in the bezel but is still well held as all areas of the stones girdle are tucked under the gold on both the top side and underside so it is not at risk of coming free. A bit of unevenness from wear to the bezel. Evidence of a sizing to the back with two seams a slightly different hue, pretty common for age.
There are no dark or uneven spots to the gold otherwise, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings, including clouds and trees : )
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
