ABOUT:
Current earring favs! Completely encrusted panel earrings, with 50 (!) old cut diamonds totaling around 3.4 carats total weight in diamonds for the pair. My favorite bits are of course the rare old cut triangle diamonds at the top of each earring. This leads down to two trapezoid shaped panels that flare out gradually towards the bottom and are encrusted with round diamonds in Old European and Transitional Cuts. The earrings are crafted in platinum with 18k white gold push backs (the push backs may be later replacements?)
I love the geometric cobblestone appearance to these old French beauties and the way the two panels are independent but hinged together with a loop on each side, to allow them to move, dangle and catch the light. So incredibly sparkly and unique.
The body of the earrings are stamped with the French hallmark for platinum. The push backs are stamped 750, which is the numerical hallmarking system used in much of Europe for 18k gold. So fun how they are antiques but still such a relevant, geometric design for wear today.
These are scarce and sought after for a few reasons - the first is that all old cut diamonds of course have a more limited supply since they are no longer made in this way. There are only so many in existence compared to the millions of carats of modern, machine cut diamonds made every year. These have withstood the test of time.
The second is the shape - we usually see old cuts in round or cushion shapes so finding them triangular with the visible open culet is quite uncommon.
Antique box / props not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
From the top of the triangular diamond to bottom of each earring is 28mm for dangle length. East to west at the widest area of the bottom is 10mm. The pair weighs just under 7 grams combined.
I purchased these from a reputable source in France who estimated them at 3 carats for the pair in the round diamonds, plus .4 carats for the triangular diamonds (.2 carat each) which seems to align with their measurements below. Exact carat weight is not known as I would never remove them.
The triangle cut diamonds are about 3mm each. Each round diamond is about 2mm to 3 mm give or take and there are 48 of them between the pair, plus the two triangle old cut diamonds.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. There seem to be in better than most condition with no loose stones and the prongs are in good shape. None of the diamonds are damaged and they have a vibrant white color with a wonderful rainbow fire in direct light. Some faint natural inclusions but each diamond is small so there is nothing eye visible and no dark carbon or glaring spots. As mentioned, pushbacks may be later replacements since the earrings are crafted in platinum but the push backs are white gold. Attention grabbing and wearable to dress up or down.
