French Antique Natural RUBY 1 1/4 Carat Old Mine Cut DIAMOND Daisy Cluster Halo Ring 18k Gold
French Antique Natural RUBY 1 1/4 Carat Old Mine Cut DIAMOND Daisy Cluster Halo Ring 18k Gold
ABOUT:
Fabulous French antique ring with center oval pinkish red natural ruby raised in prongs and surrounded by a halo of ten old mine cut diamonds. As an added accent there is an additional OMC diamond set into each raised shoulder for wonderful sparkle coverage across the finger. With around 1.25 carats in old cut diamonds, this impactful piece has color and sparkle and a great antique look. T
he ring is crafted in 18k gold with a beautiful shine and rosy hues to the shank from patina of age. The outside prongs are all in gold while the inside rim of the daisy cluster face is topped with platinum as was customary to set diamonds in a white metal, which provides a nice contrast.
These daisy cluster rings are among my most popular so I try to source as many as I can, although it is rarer for me to find them with center ruby or emerald so this is a bit more scarce than the all diamond or sapphire versions.
No hallmarks remain which is common for French pieces as they are marked in the back and often lost during a sizing or from wear. But sold to me from a reputable source in France where the standard is 18k and tested to confirm.
Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6 1/2. The ring face is 14x12.5mm. It stands 6.5mm off the finger.
The ruby is 7x5mm.
Ten of the diamonds measure about 3mm give or take. The diamonds on the north and south tips are slightly larger as a design element and measure at about 3.3mm. Varying depths to the diamonds and I would not remove them but just using estimates, I am getting around 1 1/4 carat in diamonds / 1.25Tdw.
The piece weighs 4.2g.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The ruby is not damaged and is in better than most condition with just one small nick seen under magnification. It does have natural inclusions that can catch the light which is what you see in the photos. It also has some warmth to brown in some of the inclusions but this is more noticeable in bright direct light or under lit magnification as overall the stone has a beautiful color and sheen.
Wonderful antique diamonds with no chips or cracks, nary even a nibble with a nice bright white color and really nice clarity. We typically see more inclusions in antique stones that were hand cut long before the Four C's for mathematically perfected machine cut diamonds were created. But for antique stones these have exceptional clarity with no eye visible inclusions.
The platinum halo around the center ruby, which is at the base of the gold prongs holding the inside edge of each of the diamonds, is uneven. Being a white metal it is not glaringly visible but when you study it under magnification you can see the uneven welding. I am not sure if there was reinforcement done there or if it was just made this way. A worn prong here or there, typical and expected for apiece of this age but all the stones are secure. Something to keep an eye on over time but most of the outside gold prong tips are particularly strong.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
