ABOUT:
A rare and dainty 3D barrel clasp entirely encrusted on all sides in rose cut diamonds. This French antique piece is crafted in platinum with 6 panels, each set with 5 rose cut diamonds. The tongue insert is a rosy 18k gold. These old ornate clasps are hard to come by as this is a salvaged antique one and not a modern reproduction. These make excellent and functional pendants, where you can attached a chain to each side, wear it to the front, side or back, or hang it from one end on a chain so it dangles down. Ornate and sparkly.
The diamonds are all rose cut, with rich amber to golden yellow hues. I'm not sure if this is just age to the setting or if it was intentional with a foil backing, the saturation of color varies from stone to stone. The tongue insert which disguises itself, is clever in that it can be inserted at any part of the open end, others have notches where they have to be inserted face up.
Functions perfectly with sturdy fabrication, the clasp has great tension with the tongue insert securing with a snap.
Dainty! Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos, especially with the zoomed images that I am required to present for detail.
I found this in Switzerland. It has the French hallmark for platinum on the loop and then the tongue insert is stamped for 18k gold with an old serial number.
MEASUREMENTS:
Very dainty. Just 13.5mm end to end and 4mm deep. It weighs 1.3 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Typical antique diamonds with faint natural inclusions but the stones are small so this is not really eye visible. Functions very well. Please note the small loops on each end. You would likely need to add a larger jump ring that opens to attach it to a chain.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
