ABOUT:
Beautiful glowing Victoria era long guard chain, originally likely held a watch or chatelaine item but makes a beautiful and unique layering chain with so many options to wear! This gorgeous French Victorian period piece is crafted in rich and warm 18k gold, so sought after since it took over 125 years to produce such a color and it can't be found on modern gold. The chain is a fine sort of cable chain with alternating faceted links and round ribbed links for texture.
Over 4.75 linear FEET of antique 18k gold chain! The piece is in real/solid 18k gold - not plated or gold filled, although the links have vacant space inside them and a seam seen under magnification on the inside which is the common fabrication. Don't let that description fool you - It is super sturdy with a very sturdy hand feel. It is fabricated where the two types of links are gold soldered together in pairs.
This one does not open to stretch end to end but can be worn as a body chain, single and long, or doubled / tripled and shorter in your neckmess / neckstack. When doubled, you can loop it over the neck twice, or fold it in half and use the dog clip to clasp to itself to the end of the chain. So many options! You can also adjust the chain to equal lengths or draped, or short and long, etc. Or you can wear it doubled with the spring ring facing down to swap out pendants. I can also wear it wrapped around the wrist a few times as a shimmering multi chain bracelet. Please note the measurements though as we all come in wonderfully different shapes and sizes.
Sturdy hand feel at almost 17 grams of solid 18k gold. It is stamped with the French hallmark on the loop of the spring ring and I tested it in multiple places as well. Clearly 18k gold which is the standard in France.

MEASUREMENTS:
It weighs 16.95 grams.
Stretched end to end doubled it is 29 inches. It's about 58 inches of linear chain all together (over 4.75 feet!) but does not open to stretch end to end as it is one big hoop.
The chain links are about 3mm and 3.7mm wide.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. Perfect rich antique patina and beautiful glow - No major damage, one link has some dings creating a ripple and a crease to the gold but the weld is still strong and it is not really evident while wearing.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
