ABOUT:
A personal collection release as I love figural pieces, especially those with sentimental meaning.
Awesome little French Victorian era ring in 18k gold - this piece has a lot going for it. The triple panel ring face is delicately decorated with the "three virtues" motif which represented faith, hope and love in Victorian times. These anchor, cross and flaming heart symbols became prominent in the late 18th century to represent the three virtues. They were used in mourning pieces, for remembrance, as love tokens, or in cases of separation for the loved one to return safely home.
Ornate floral details at each shoulder.
French hallmarks for 18k gold with a wonderful antique rosy patina.
Antique box / props not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 8, there is a crease at the back so it is ready for a sizing. Ring face is 7.5mm north to south. Weight is 2.2 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
There is an open seam to the back where it had been sized and since split. I always just wore it as is and decided not to repair it since the next buyer may wish to have it sized anyway. This one is fabricated where the ring face has vacant space in between the repousse design. This extends to the shoulders which are hollow but then turn to gold all the way through at the back of the shank. Due to the vacant space, there are some ripples at each shoulder from shallow impressions especially by the old hallmark and there is one small hole to the gold between the anchor and heart motifs right on the top edge from wear over the last 150 years thinning the gold there. It is a stable piece, ready for wear and doesn't flex or bend, it's just super old with the fabrication often found during the period where the hollow areas allow for wear over time.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any glaring issues above and they are all still wearable.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature : )
I would be delighted if you'd follow me in my shop. Thanks for stopping by!
